As a Mechanical Engineer at Radical AI you will design and build a suite of novel robotic and autonomous systems to drive a first of its kind material science research and discovery laboratory. Our Mechanical Engineering team owns all aspects of the physical manifestation of our technology. You will help define design requirements from a greenfield solution space and then execute on 3D design prototyping validating and installing mechanical systems within our lab. You will solve a vast array of interconnected problems involving material handling precision motion control and refitting state of the art laboratory and metallurgical equipment for automation and programmatic control.
You will take ownership of individual projects and subsystems and bring them to completion using your knowledge of rapid prototyping and low volume manufacturing techniques. Your hardware will fit in seamlessly with the Radical AI branding language and smoothly interface with peripheral systems and equipment. Youll leverage your experience and expertise to become an indispensable contributor to collaborative engineering initiatives.
Mission
- Contribute to and actualize the vision of the Mechanical Engineering team as we tackle solving complex and interconnected material handling challenges and innovate novel solutions to automating the operation of existing equipment and systems.
- Use your 2D and 3D visualization skills to communicate complex ideas designs and geometries in group ideation sessions that include a non-technical audience.
- Design complex systems and assemblies in CAD to demonstrate viable solutions to automation challenges.
- Rapid prototype to prove design efficacy then facilitate part fabrication from outside vendors to build your system and integrate it with software and controls.
- Help shape the culture of the hardware team by leading from the front and demonstrating a disciplined sense of organization eye for detail and an impeccable level of polish and craftsmanship.
- Bring an attitude of collaboration and openmindedness to facilitate fearless and creative problem solving that empowers our team to ship world class technology at an unprecedented speed.
About you
- Minimum B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- 3-5 years industry experience in mechanical engineering involving part and assembly design.
- Proficiency with CAD software we use SOLIDWORKS.
- Well versed in common rapid prototyping and part fabrication techniques and DFM best practices.
- CNC part design sheet metal part design 3D printing metal casting etc.
- Proven track record of delivering novel mechanism and machine hands on fabrication and assembly skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Pluses
- Experience in industrial automation settings and design of automation equipment.
- Familiarity with 6 DOF arms cobots and their implementation.
- Experience with PLCs motor drivers and motion control with simulation and analysis tools like FEA or CFD.
- Experience or exposure to the design and utilization of material handling systems.
- AMRs ASRS conveyance systems etc.
