Job Summary
Job Title: Registered Nurse Mother/Baby
Location: Ithaca NY
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule Options:
Day Shift: 3 12-hour shifts per week
Night Shift: 3 12-hour shifts per week
Hours: 36 hours/week
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mother/Baby Registered Nurse to provide compassionate evidence-based nursing care to postpartum mothers and newborns in an acute care hospital setting. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical skills patient education expertise and a family-centered approach to care.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive postpartum care to mothers following vaginal and cesarean deliveries
Assess monitor and document maternal and newborn conditions
Support breastfeeding initiation education and newborn care instruction
Administer medications and treatments per physician orders and hospital protocols
Monitor vital signs pain levels lochia incision sites and infant feeding/output
Educate patients and families on postpartum recovery newborn care and safe sleep practices
Collaborate with OB providers lactation consultants pediatric teams and interdisciplinary staff
Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
Ensure compliance with hospital policies safety standards and regulatory requirements
Required Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (state-specific requirements apply)
Minimum 1 year of recent Mother/Baby or Postpartum nursing experience
BLS certification (AHA preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a high-volume postpartum or womens services unit
NRP certification
Strong patient education and family-centered care skills
