About the role

The Legal Team is a key adviser and partner to the wider AEMO business helping to achieve its corporate objectives while navigating the complex environments in which it operates by providing trusted counsel and legal services.

As part of AEMOs Legal Team the Corporate Lawyer will provide regulatory and commercial legal advice and services supporting AEMOs functions. This exciting role will give you direct access to the General Counsel and work closely with the Managing Counsel Commercial and Systems assisting them in providing legal advice and services across AEMOs functions.

What you will be doing

  • Providing advice on legal issues affecting AEMO including interpretation of regulatory instruments (such as legislation rules and procedures) and contracts.
  • Advising on drafting and reviewing internal policies guidelines processes training reports correspondence and other documents including procurement processes.
  • Preparing reviewing negotiating and advising on contracts which AEMO enters into in the course of performing its functions.
  • Legal compliance across a range of generally applicable laws including the Corporations Act.
  • Contributing to the improvement of work systems and processes within the Legal Team and wider AEMO teams.
  • Representing AEMO with external stakeholders including industry and government.

What you will bring to the role

  • Bachelor of Laws / Juris Doctor with a minimum 3 years PQE.
  • Eligibility to practice law in an Australian jurisdiction in which AEMO operates (current practising certificate) and eligibility for Australian Government security clearance including Australian citizenship
  • Demonstrated experience in drafting negotiations and commercial acumen.
  • Experience in advising on information technology contracts including emerging issues such as cyber and AI as well as tender processes (private sector or government sector) would be advantageous
  • Ability to manage competing priorities with a high degree of organisation.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and innovation in solving legal and commercial problems.
