Whats the role

As a Senior Lawyer CCS & Mortgages youll provide senior practical legal and regulatory advice across Westpacs home lending business supporting decisions from product design through to customer outcomes. This is a handson advisory role covering the full home lending value chain not a narrow policy or litigation position. Youll advise on consumer credit regulation mortgage products sales and distribution lending operations documentation land title issues incidents complaints customer assist and recoveries (nonlitigious).

Youll work closely with senior leaders across Mortgages helping them manage legal and regulatory risk while balancing commercial objectives and customerfirst outcomes. The role requires strong judgement confidence to advise and challenge where needed and the ability to clearly explain legal risk to nonlawyers at all levels. The role sits within Consumer Legal supporting the Mortgages Line of Business. Litigation is managed by a separate team although you may advise on disputes from a regulatory or risk perspective.

What do I need
  • Admitted solicitor with around 10 years PQE
  • Proven consumer credit experience in a banking or financial services context
  • Background in inhouse legal or law firm environments supporting regulated businesses
  • Strong judgement in identifying assessing and managing legal and reputational risk
  • Ability to give clear practical legal advice to nonlawyers
  • Experience advising on the NCCP Act and related consumer credit obligations
  • Exposure to ASIC Act and Privacy Act considerations
  • Mortgages home lending or broader retail banking experience
  • Comfortable advising senior executives in complex fastmoving environments
  • Practical customerfocused legal thinker who knows when to decide independently and when to escalate
