POSITION SUMMARY
The Product Steward is responsible for ensuring that the organizations products are developed manufactured marketed and distributed in compliance with applicable global chemical environmental health and safety regulations. This role serves as a key partner to R&D Regulatory Affairs Quality Operations and Commercial teams to assess product-related regulatory requirements and proactively manage risks across the product lifecycle. The Product Steward will leverage SAP Product Compliance to maintain accurate product regulatory data classifications and documentation and to enable compliant sales and distribution globally.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
Assess and interpret global chemical and product regulations (e.g. REACH CLP/GHS TSCA WHMIS RoHS Prop 65 food contact etc.) to determine applicability and compliance obligations.
Support product risk assessments hazard evaluations and compliance reviews throughout the product lifecycle.
Ensure accurate chemical classifications composition data and regulatory attributes within SAP Product Compliance.
SAP Product Compliance & Data Management
Maintain and update regulatory content safety data and classifications within SAP Product Compliance modules.
Manage substance- and material-level regulatory checks compliance rulesets and automated product compliance workflows.
Collaborate with IT and master data teams to optimize system use troubleshoot issues and implement enhancements.
Documentation & Labelling
Oversee generation and review of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) labels and compliance declarations.
Coordinate updates to documents based on regulatory changes product changes or new market requirements.
Ensure documentation is aligned with current GHS frameworks and regional requirements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Provide regulatory and product stewardship guidance to R&D sourcing quality commercial and operations teams.
Support new product introductions product changes and market expansions through timely compliance assessments.
Act as a subject-matter expert on chemical and product regulations contributing to training and internal capability building.
Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
Track evolving global regulations and assess potential impact on product portfolios.
Help maintain internal processes work instructions and best practices for product stewardship and compliance.
Support audits regulatory inspections and customer inquiries related to product compliance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Bachelors degree in Chemistry Chemical Engineering Environmental Science Toxicology or a related scientific discipline; advanced degree preferred.
37 years of experience in product stewardship regulatory affairs or chemical compliance ideally within manufacturing life sciences distribution or specialty chemicals.
Hands-on experience with SAP Product Compliance is required (e.g. PCBasic Dangerous Goods Safety Data Sheet Management Marketability Environmental Compliance Global Label Management).
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of global chemical regulations and product compliance frameworks (e.g. REACH GHS/CLP TSCA K-REACH food contact etc.).
Ability to analyze product composition and regulatory data to determine compliance status.
Familiarity with SDS authoring hazard classification and chemical labeling requirements.
Proficiency with SAP systems (particularly SAP Product Compliance) and Excel; experience with additional regulatory tools/databases is a plus.
