Description of Work

This position is located in the Guilford County Bridge Maintenance Unit. This position will serve as the lead project inspector and supports higher level engineers in the administration of large complex Bridge construction projects within Division 7; Monitors daily progress of projects and resolves constructability issues to maintain project schedules; Manages all aspects of large and complex construction projects with limited supervision from higher level engineers.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC09 $39671 - $69426

Management prefers applicants with the following:

  • Knowledge and understanding of NCDOT concepts practices and theories used in highway construction.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of computers software and basic mathematics.
  • Knowledge in understanding contracts plans standards and specifications.
  • Experience in conducting inspections for compliance with contract agreements and specifications.
  • Experience in sampling and testing materials to evaluate acceptance.

Additional Expectations:

Establish and maintain positive lines of communication with other workers engineers contractors and general public. Perform record keeping manually and electronically. Position will be expected to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally up to 20 lbs. of force frequently up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Selected applicant will be required to work suspended at moderate heights confined areas over water in water in extreme heat and cold during inclement weather and must traverse steep and uneven terrain. Selected applicant must have the ability to work nights weekends and holidays as needed. Selected applicant will be working in roadways or on the shoulder adjacent to the traveling public in heavy traffic at interstate speeds near heavy equipment while working safely. Safety toe footwear is needed for this position. Selected applicant must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle

Minimum Education and Experience

Associates degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
