PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

This is an exciting opportunity to join the BBCs dynamic team in Hong Kong as a Video Journalist. Based in our Hong Kong bureau and reporting to the News Editor you will work closely with colleagues in Taipei to deliver compelling high-quality journalism to our Chinese-speaking audiences. This role is central to our mission of providing trusted engaging and innovative content across platforms.

Our team is passionate about making sense of the world for our audiences whether reporting on major global events or uncovering stories that matter in the Greater China region.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

• Generateoriginal video story ideas and deliver them from concept to publication including research interviews filming scripting video editing and publishing high-quality content.
• Produce fast-turnaround explainers and news videos independently or in collaboration with text journalists using a range of sources including agency footage and social media.
• Create engaging short-form video content tailored for digital and social platforms such as Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts in both simplified and traditional Chinese.
• Record interviews and original footage ensuring all content meets BBC editorial and technical standards.
• Reversion and adapt content for multiple platforms and audiences across the BBCs global services.
• Uphold the highest standards of accuracy creativity and safety including conducting risk assessments where required.
• Support the growth of the BBC Chinese Service by sharing content across BBC platforms and contributing to the development of the website and digital strategy.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

• Youll have excellent written and spoken Chinese (first or equivalent language) and strong English with a proven track record in producing and editing high-quality video content for digital platforms.
• You bring hands-on experience in digital newsgathering filming and editingideally with knowledge of live streaming outside broadcasts and a confident on-camera presence.
• Youre confident using industry-standard tools such as Final Cut Pro Davina Jupiter and Wolftech with a strong grasp of emerging media technologies and digital workflows.
• You thrive in a fast-paced newsroom meeting tight deadlines while supporting and guiding colleagues new to video and digital production.
• You demonstrate sound editorial judgement a commitment to impartial journalism and the ability to translate complex ideas into compelling content for diverse audiences.
• You understand platform-native video and how performance can vary across major social platforms due to different audience behaviours and algorithms and can creatively tailor format length and storytelling accordingly
