Contribute to the successful operation of hundreds of facilities in the City of Edmonton as a Custodial Services Inspector with Facility Maintenance this role you will be responsible for managing custodial work emergency restorations and structural pest management throughout the City including planning costing and scheduling the work contractual and internal staff to ensure facilities are clean safe and well maintained for Edmontonians to enjoy. You will succeed as a Custodial Services Inspector if you thrive in a fast-paced environment and can use your highly developed communication skills to manage contracts and people in a respectful inclusive and service-minded way
What will you do
- Inspect and approve work completed by crews and/or contractors within approved work plans
- Perform in-house and contract time audit and prepare reports
- Prepare and communicate job standards and set work performance expectations
- Build highly effective teams through recruiting coaching counseling performance monitoring orientations on-going feedback and training requirements
- Mediate and resolve problems involving services with client departments. Investigate and resolve problems concerning services staff or other related issues
- Provide input to annual budget process and monthly budget variance reporting
- Prepare and track requisitions and purchases for site maintenance requirements and authorize expenditures; assist in the analysis and interpretation of management and financial data and reports
- Provide input to contract specifications and initiate Change Orders
- Provide direction leadership and coordination of the approved annual work plan; identify and ensure the provision of required resources (i.e. materials equipment supplies)
- Review weekly and monthly management and financial reports to direct the work of teams and crews
- Maintain effective working relationships with the public city departments and outside organizations in order to meet with operational and client needs and maintenance requirements
- Manage and train leadership employees with Google Appsheet Quality Assurance software tool
- Ensure OH&S compliance for the provision of Custodial Services
- Provide recommendations regarding certain environmental products methodology and technology applicable to the custodial industry
- Perform other related duties as required
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
- Completion of the Building Services Worker program through an approved institution
- Related post secondary coursework in the areas of report writing and contract administration / interpretation or equivalent
- Completion or enrolment of related post secondary education in business or facility management such as a BOMI Real Property Administrator (RPA) designation is an asset
- IICRC Certification
- OH&S Abatement certificate
Skills required for success:
- Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in all aspects of custodial management / emergency restoration knowledge of abatement (contract administration dispute resolution or Property Management)
- Minimum 3 years experience at the supervisory level
- Demonstrated experience effectively managing multiple facilities for the provision of custodial services emergency restoration / minor reconstruction and pest control
- Proven ability to coach and mentor staff
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including exemplary customer service and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills including the ability to make good decisions in an independent manner
- Proven ability to monitor work plans for timeliness quantity quality productivity unit costing and accomplishments
- Strong proficiency and experience in Google Workspace Microsoft Office SAP Xactimate and Quality Assurance software tools
- Knowledge of City policies procedures bylaws legislation and collective agreements
- Compliance with the City of Edmontons safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as being fit-tested for and wearing a respirator is a requirement for this position

Conditions of Employment:
- First Aid Certificate required
- Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance
- Hire is dependent upon an Enhanced Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
- Shifts may be variable throughout the week including weekend afternoon and evening work depending on operational requirements
