About the Team:
The Kitchen Tech Team is at the forefront of CookUnitys ChefOS Zone building mission-critical software solutions that power our kitchen centers. Our team is responsible for Live Production Software which enables real-time kitchen operations audits and production optimization ensuring that every meal is crafted with precision and efficiency.
This role will also be part of a dedicated Ops Engineering R&D squad an innovation-driven team focused on exploring emerging technologies building POCs and developing solutions that enhance operational efficiency across fulfillment logistics and kitchen operations. The role:
We are looking for aSenior Backend Engineer to contribute to the evolution of our Kitchen Tech products while also playing a key role in R&D initiatives. This role involves hands-on development in Kotlin working closely with cross-functional teams to build reliable scalable and intuitive tools for kitchen and fulfillment operations.
The ideal candidate is a highly adaptable engineer who is eager to work across the stack explore new technologies and contribute to a high-impact R&D squad dedicated to shaping the future of operational tools at CookUnity.
As part of theOps Engineering R&D squad this role requires atechnology-agnostic mindset with a willingness to explore and contribute to new tech stacks when needed. Youll collaborate closely with product managers operations teams and other engineers to ensure our kitchen logistics and fulfillment systems are best-in-class.
Responsibilities:
- Design develop and maintain backend services for Kitchen Tech using Kotlin/Java
- Contribute in overall architecture solution by providing good practices within a micro-services oriented architecture
- Implement workflow automation and orchestration using Temporal.
- Optimize database interactions and performance (PostgreSQL MySQL)
- Collaborate with frontend engineers product managers and designers to build seamless user experiences
- Ensure system reliability and uptime by implementing best practices in observability logging and monitoring
- Perform code reviews contribute to best practices and mentor junior engineers
- Work closely with DevOps to optimize CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure deployment
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and drive innovation within the team
- Be open to learning and working with other programming languages if required by R&D initiatives
Qualifications:
- 6 years of experience in software development with a strong focus on backend development
- Experience working with Micronaut or Spring Boot frameworks
- Understanding of micro-services architecture and distributed systems
- Passion for R&D and innovation with experience building POCs and exploring emerging technologies
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to new challenges quickly
- Comfortable working in fast-paced environments with evolving requirements
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills
Preferred requirements:
- Experience with GraphQL event-driven architectures or message queues (Kafka RabbitMQ etc.)
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines containerization (Docker Kubernetes) and cloud services (AWS GCP or Azure)
- Background in food tech logistics or fulfillment software development
- Experience in IoT edge computing or hardware integrations related to kitchen operations
