The Student Financial Success Specialist is primarily responsible for all interactions with students and their family members. Managing outreach and engagement educating them on their financial responsibilities and the procedures with which UNLV/NSHE sets forth governing tuition and fee charges and payments. Under the supervision of the Cashiering and Student Accounts Manager this position will be responsible for reviewing students accounts managing all inquiries maintaining communication with students falling behind on their financial responsibilities monitoring bankruptcy claims recording payments and processing order to fulfill these responsibilities this position will interact with the Campus Relations Team within Academic Affairs external collection agencies and the General Counsels office providing the support needed to ensure students needs are addressed.
This position will also maintain responsibility for ensuring the university remains complaint with all regulations around charges applied to accounts and the guidelines with which the university must remain in to collect by researching regulatory changes and interpreting complex compliance frameworks --including NSHE/UNLV policies FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Regulation F and Department of Education guidelines.
Duties include:
Responsible for monitoring students accounts proactively engaging with at-risk students falling behind on payments.
Educating students on university deadlines and policies regarding balances.
Attempting to resolve past due balances via payments or enrolling in payment plans.
Research reconcile and resolve any student account balance issues identified.
Maintain or establish communication with students regarding past due balances including working with collection agencies.
Process past due accounts with collections agencies or the District Attorneys office that have been deemed uncollectable.
Monitor Bankruptcy Claims and work with General Counsel to resolve the students accounts.
Act as the primary point of contact for all cashiering and student account inquiries.
Act as Primary Liaison with the Campus Relations Team in Academic Affairs helping students get their questions answered by the right individual.
Answer phones emails and chat questions that students and families have following all FERPA guidelines and Board policy.
Maintain awareness and understanding of UNLV and NSHE policies around tuition and fee-related policies
This position requires a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 1 to 3 years of experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.
Basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Understanding of invoicing payment processing account reconciliations and cash application
Understanding of financial and legal regulations related to managing accounts receivable
Higher Education Cashiering/Student Accounts (Bursars Office) experience is preferred.
Detailed knowledge in understanding fair credit practices and regulations to manage delinquent accounts and collections effectively.
