Job Summary

Public Works is excited to present a new opportunity to existing Operations Maintenance Workers (OMW) or employees that meet the mutually agreed upon Training Program requirements for an OMW position to support their continued growth and development. There is currently a need for one (1) Trades I Utilities Operator-in-Training.

To be considered for this Expression of Interest (EOI) an applicant will currently be an Operations Maintenance Worker or an employee who currently meets the Training Program requirements for an OMW position and has worked with the City of Port Coquitlam for at least six (6) months.

Those being considered for this Expression of Interest must demonstrate leadership qualities in the performance of their day to day work have good technical skills attendance initiative communication people skills and conflict resolution skills. These skills knowledge and abilities will be assessed by an interview work experience/record and/or reference check to determine suitability.

The successful applicant will be considered a Trades I Utilities Operator-in-Training and be paid at an Operations Maintenance Worker rate. Following three months of experience in the role and meeting the Environmental Operator Certification Program (EOCP) Operator-in-training requirements the incumbent will be eligible to write their EOCP Operator-in-Training exam. Once the test is written and passed with a minimum mark of seventy percent (70%) the Trades I Utilities Operator-in-Training will receive the Trades I Utilities pay rate.

From the date of acceptance as the Trades I Utilities Operator-in-Training the candidate will have twenty-four (24) months to successfully complete their Water Distribution I and/or Waste Water Collection I Certification to become fully accredited to work in the Trades I Utilities position.

Further details of the opportunity are outlined in a Letter of Understanding agreed upon by CUPE 498 and the City of Port Coquitlam.
