JOB TITLE: ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

JOB SUMMARY: The elementary principal provides leadership and management of the school program in a growing diverse community to affect student academic achievement social emotional well-being and physical development for all students. The Principal ensures the districts commitment to equity is integrated into all facets of collaboration with students and families and in conjunction with all building decisions and operations.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Partner with and engage the school community to promote student learning and well-being.
  • Lead instructional staff in the alignment of curriculum instruction and assessment with state and local district learning goals.
  • Focus on leading all stakeholders in support of the districts commitment to equity and for students furthest from educational justice.
  • Hire supervise and evaluate staff to promote effective performance.
  • Work with families in partnership to support student learning.
  • Create a culturally relevant school culture that promotes the ongoing improvement of teaching and learning for staff and students.
  • Lead the development implementation and evaluation of a data-driven school program for the purpose of enhancing student achievement for every student.
  • Advance and contribute to the learning community of school and district administrators in the lessons and insights of emerging practices.
  • Lead system-wide efforts as necessary to support improvement of the districts academic and well-being outcomes.
  • Manage school climate and facilities to promote student staff and school safety.
  • Manage staff and fiscal resources to support student achievement and fulfill legal responsibilities.
  • Compile and submit reports and information in a timely manner.
  • Implement and comply with federal and state laws District policies and the Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and conform to work hours specified under contract.
  • Support and promote district initiatives that benefit the larger community.
  • Other related job duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

  • Knowledge of curriculum instruction assessment and programs and specifically culturally relevant curriculum and instruction.
  • Knowledge and skills in hiring supervising and evaluating staff.
  • Knowledge of the role of administrators in fiscal management and program compliance.
  • Knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations that govern the operation of a public school.
  • Knowledge of the application and implementation of school board policies and procedures.
  • Skills in leading and sustaining school improvement.
  • Skills in instructional leadership and program management.
  • Skills in developing a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Skills in attracting and retaining staff of color.
  • Skills in working in partnership with families to promote and support student learning.

  • Skills in effective decision-making problem-solving and group facilitation.
  • Skills in delegation and developing leadership in others.
  • Skills in time management and organization.

  • Skills and ability to evaluate systemic practices that positively and/or negatively affect student needs.
  • Ability to engage and work with a diverse group of people under a variety of circumstances.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships based on trust accountability and two-way feedback.
  • Ability to lead conversations and discourse on topics related to race class and equity.
  • Ability to identify and address personal cultural and institutional bias.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess or be eligible for Washington State Principal Certificate required.
  • Three or more years of administrative experience overseeing programs serving children and youth preferred.
  • Three or more years of teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse cultural racial ethnic gender sexual orientation ability and socioeconomic backgrounds.
