The City of Lenexas Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Camp Director to help manage our licensed day camp for the Summer of 2026.
Position Summary:
The Assistant Camp Director assists with the overall operations of the camp supports staff and ensures a safe and engaging environment for campers. If youre a natural leader with excellent communication skills and the ability to make quick decisions this is the role for you!
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and schedule up to 25 staff members fostering a positive and productive team environment.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians participants and other personnel.
- Ensure camp operations align with Lenexa and KDHE guidelines including maintaining a safe environment and enforcing behavior policies.
- Assist in planning and implementing programs scheduling group rotations and organizing activities.
- Document incidents disturbances and problems reporting them to the Camp Director or Recreation Supervisor.
- Dispense medications and administer Epi-Pens after completing required training.
- Support specialty camps and participate in special events such as hosting booths or leading activities.
- Drive a 15-passenger vehicle to transport participants as needed.
- Inspect clean and maintain program equipment and areas.
Qualifications:
- Required:
- At least 18 years old.
- Completed at least 60 college credit hours with 1 year of related experience OR 30 credit hours with 6 months of related experience.
- Valid drivers license.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or obtain within 30 days of employment).
- Ability to Drive a 15-passenger vehicle to transport participants as needed.
- Preferred:
- Bachelors degree in education child development recreation or a related field.
- Two years of experience working with youth.
- Parks and recreation experience.
Physical Demands & Work Environment: This role requires lifting and moving supplies related to camp programs and events standing for extended periods and working outdoors in varying conditions.
The rate of pay is $18.75 per hour.
Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug screen and a comprehensive fingerprint-based background check as required by the state of Kansas. An additional standard background check is required for applicants aged 18 or older.
