About the City

Woodinville Washington is a premier tourist destination with a population of about 14000 though the City will likely grow rapidly over the next five years or so. This growth is resulting in lots of exciting projects and programs. Located about 20 miles northeast of Seattle Woodinville offers the benefits of a bustling urban area against the backdrop of the picturesque Sammamish River Valley. Woodinville is known for its tourism industries with over 130 wineries breweries and distilleries and numerous opportunities for outdoor activities.


The City of Woodinville is recruiting for a Maintenance Worker II position. Our Maintenance Workers help keep the Citys facilities parks and other infrastructure functional and tidy by assuming responsibility for repairs and upkeep. This position will primarily focus on maintenance of City parks and fields; however all Maintenance Workers perform a variety of tasks related to street storm water and facility maintenance. Candidates must also possess a valid Flaggers Certification valid Washington State drivers license and valid Commercial drivers license or the ability to obtain a CDL within the first year of City employment. As the Maintenance Worker II you will

  • Manage and/or provide Public Works maintenance including for Parks streets stormwater facilities or City facilities. May prepare work schedule for assigned seasonal or temporary workers based on priority.
  • Conduct routine visual inspections of the Citys infrastructure e.g. parks streets and/or storm systems.
  • Manage the upkeep of the parks systems appearance and cleanliness to adhere to City standards.
  • May be assigned to assist in the City and private stormwater inspection program. Includes coordinating with the Citys Surface Water Program Coordinator in inspecting each facility to verify compliance and providing follow-up inspection and enforcement.
  • Work with other maintenance staff in making repairs flagging transporting materials and equipment and other duties as directed. Performs installations light construction and landscaping and facility maintenance work in accordance with sound safety practices.
  • May assist in the oversight of the work of seasonal and temporary hires contract labor and volunteers to ensure that City standards are met. Assist in the review of potential seasonal employee applications.
  • Operate construction equipment and heavy machinery. Ensure proper and safe operations.
  • Respond appropriately to citizen inquiries concerns and requests for work; ensure prompt follow-up to requests and forwards major complaints to assigned supervisor.
  • Assist with the evaluation of necessary maintenance equipment needs and labor allocations for projects. Ensures the proper equipment is readily available and in working order.
  • Provide 24-hour response to emergencies snow/ice removal flooding and other natural disaster events. Assists with the response to pollutant spill investigations clean-up and enforcement and responds to public inquiries and complaints.
  • Review work orders and plans; suggests changes to improve the finished project.
  • Maintain parks public roadways and rights-of-way and stormwater facilities and City-owned facilities
  • Perform minor repairs and routine maintenance on City equipment tools and vehicles as directed.
  • Repairs signs fills potholes and performs vegetation management throughout the City
  • Maintenance Workers are subject to call-back during emergencies on a 24-hour basis and may be required to work occasional evenings weekends or holidays during special events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma AND
  • Five years of relevant experience AND
  • Must possess a valid Flaggers Certification and Washington State drivers license. A valid Commercial drivers license A if not possessed upon hire must be obtained within the first year of City employment. OR
  • In place of the above requirements the incumbent may possess any combination of relevant education and experience which would demonstrate the individuals knowledge skill and ability to proficiently perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed both indoors and outside. Outside work will require the operation of motorized vehicles and equipment and exposure to varying weather and terrain conditions. Must continuously stand walk grip or feel with hands and reach with hands and arms; frequently stoop kneel crouch crawl and talk or hear; occasionally sit climb or balance taste or smell and lift objects weighing up to and more than 100 pounds. Work environment has exposure to indoor environment outdoor environment noise extreme temperatures vibration moisture and/or humidity dust fumes gases poor ventilation electrical hazards mechanical hazards chemical hazards explosive hazards burn hazards potential for violence/physical altercations classroom setting sharp objects/tools radiation traffic hazards and extreme road conditions. Necessary aptitudes include perception of detail finger and manual dexterity eye/hand/foot coordination requiring close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less) distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more) color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors) peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down or to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point) depth perception (three-dimensional vision ability to judge distances and spatial relationships) and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus). The nature of the work may be fast paced with repetitive and frequent interruptions. The position requires a flexible schedule which may include irregular hours.

Compensation Classification and Labor Representation

The full salary range for this position is step # 1 $69405.00 to step # 9 $94985.00. The appointment will typically be made between step # 1 $69405.00 to step # 3 $75069.00.

This position is eligible for overtime and is represented by the Teamsters Local 117 union. It is classified as a enter Maintenance Worker II. Classification descriptions are typically written broadly and may not include all specific duties and responsibilities of the position.
