The School Counselor supports the academic career and social-emotional development
of all students. The Counselor provides individual and group counseling collaborates
with teachers and parents facilitates academic and career planning manages student
scheduling and assists students in overcoming barriers to learning. The Counselor also
maintains compliance with state and federal reporting requirements including MOSIS
and CORE data and ensures alignment with the Missouri Comprehensive School
Counseling Program (MSCP) and theScott County R-IVComprehensive School
Improvement Plan (CSIP).
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The individual who holds this position has the responsibility to:
- Provide individual and group counseling services to address academic career and social-emotional needs.
- Implement the Missouri Comprehensive School Counseling Program (MSCP) aligned with state standards.
- Develop and manage student schedules including course selection enrollment and class assignments.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal requirements for MOSIS and CORE data reporting including student demographics testing discipline attendance and program participation.
- Guide students in developing career goals and post-secondary plans including college vocational training or military options.
- Collaborate with teachers administrators and parents to address barriers to student success.
- Identify students at risk and provide early interventions or referrals to appropriate resources.
- Administer and interpret assessments related to academic placement career readiness and social-emotional development.
- Support students during crisis situations providing short-term intervention and referrals as needed.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records and documentation.
- Facilitate parent and community engagement activities that promote student success.
- Participate in professional development to maintain knowledge of best practices in counseling and reporting compliance.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
Supervisory Duties
- The School Counselor has supervisory responsibility for students during counseling activities group sessions and other assigned duties or other supervisory duties assigned by administration.
Qualifications
Education
- Masters Degree in School Counseling or related field required.
Certificates Licenses Registrations
- Valid Missouri School Counselor Certificate.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of counseling theories techniques and best practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to develop rapport with students families and staff.
- Proficiency with student information systems and state reporting (MOSIS/CORE).
- Ability to organize and manage student scheduling processes.
