Performance Responsibilities:- Perform all duties/responsibilities assigned by the Director of Athletics and MERHS Principal.- Collaborate with the MERHS staff including Administration Teachers and the Manchester Essex Athletic Boosters/Gridiron Clubs. - Model the behaviors outlined in the National Federation Coaches Code of Ethics especially those pertaining to sportsmanship.- Have full control of the team in all matters pertaining to coaching and athletic discipline.- Implement Manchester Essex Athletic Department policies and team rules as per MERHS Student/Parent handbook- Be responsible for information contained in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Handbook League Handbook and the MEMHS Student/Parent Handbook.- Supervise all assistant coaches both paid and volunteered.- Attend all Athletic Department and MERHS meetings that deal directly with the sport coached including but not limited to pre-season all-star meetings facilities and fields meetings and athletic awards meetings.- Stay informed of rule changes trends and recommendations that affect the particular sport.- Unless otherwise approved be present at each practice session and at all contests of the sport coached. This includes supervision at all times of the weight room locker room and shower areas until the area is secured before and after practices and contests. - Scout future opponents when possible.- Develop an organized written practice plan to include adequate warm-up and cool-down procedures on a daily basis.- Verify that the facilities and equipment are safe and that safety procedures are taught and followed in all areas.- Implement a game plan.- Establish avenues of communication with other adults to identify potential resources for the enhancement of MEMHS athletics.- Work with community members who are involved in youth sports in order to encourage the young women and young men to continue to participate in sports at the high school level.- Develop an approach to coaching which encourages outreach to the parents of the athletes and to other adults who care about the athletes (booster clubs are one part of this outreach)- Organize and instruct clinics for the youth teams and coaches of the individual sport.- Directly supervise squad members at home and away contests.- Supervise all team members that are transported by school buses. This includes making sure all team members travel to and from games and practices (when applicable) by school transportation.- Be responsible for the distribution and collection of the schools athletic equipment before during and after the coaching season.- Direct completed score report forms and officials vouchers immediately following a contest and email score reports immediately following games- Help the Athletic Department maintain security by not allowing keys to be handled by anyone but the coaching staff.- Have an awareness of school athletic awards policy and procedures. Distribute athletic awards in accordance with school policy.- Have current knowledge of NCAA and NIAA recruiting policies regulations and admission requirements.- Complete weekly game/practice summary and submit to AD for publication.- Follow current procedures for completing end-of-season Functions of the Job:Must possess the ability to:- Communicate with team members teachers parents administration and Athletic Director.- Work with and support all other members of the MERHS coaching staff.- Address adversity with strong conflict resolution skills.- Have written and oral communication with college coaches.- Adapt to quick changes.- Organize practices.- Have an understanding of MERHS and MIAA policies and Area:- Experience with the planning of effective practice and game plans- Experience with the specific sport to be coached. - Ability to understand todays student-athlete and communicate with him/her- Willingness to fulfill all duties assigned by the Athletic and Environmental Demands:- The physical and environmental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.- Distribute equipment and uniforms- Coach in extreme cold and hot weather rain/snow- Travel by bus or school vans to away practices and games- Walk Run Jog and Lift
