The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for an Application Development Manager at our office located in Dallas TX.

The Application Development Manager manages a team of experienced individual contributors. Plans and sets day-to-day operational objectives and strategic priorities and schedules across own team and vendors. Delegates tasks to achieve operational targets and revenue targets based on predetermined services and standards. Budget accountability and manages day-to-day elements of the budget (overtime for contractors expense monitoring etc.). Manages exempt and non-exempt staff. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will cause revenue loss and delays in schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors operational metrics and processes and implements software engineering methodologies tools and best practices to ensure high-quality public experiences supporting our mission by generating revenue using a highly customized SaaS and fully custom proprietary software solution as part of the ecosystem.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity software principles and responsible for eliminating vulnerabilities.
  • Expertise developing software in Azure cloud including CICD DevSecOps zero-downtime deployments and the required judgment to balance efficiency with stability.
  • Supports multiple development projects with scheduling planning and resource allocation of off the shelf customized and fully custom codebases.
  • Develops expertise on the function and interactions of complex revenue-generating technology ecosystems with accountability for supporting defects and building highly reliable custom software solutions.
  • Conducts feedback processes including peer reviews code reviews and design reviews.
  • Fosters a sense of urgency culture using individual and team coaching and mentoring to achieve software engineering and operational excellence.
  • Will supervise vendors or off-shore resources.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope and responsibility of the job level and family.
  • Ongoing development maintenance and support for production systems for a highly available solution with large user base and public use preserving our high-quality brand reputation
  • Under supervision of and in partnership of the Senior Director of Application Development helps define and drive enterprise-wide application strategy aligned with business goals digital transformation initiatives and long-term technology roadmaps.
  • Oversees architecture governance and ensures scalable secure and maintainable application ecosystems across multiple business units.
  • Establishes KPIs and success metrics for application performance user experience and delivery velocity across the portfolio
  • Leads cross-functional collaboration across infrastructure security data integrations and product teams to ensure seamless integration and compliance.
  • Champions innovation and emerging technologies evaluating new platforms tools and methodologies to enhance business agility and technical excellence.
  • Guides organizational change management related to application modernization cloud migration and agile transformation.
  • Mentors development resources on team building succession plans and fostering a high-performing coach/player bench.
  • Owns risk management and compliance for application development ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and internal audit requirements.
  • Provides senior leadership level insights and recommendations on application portfolio health and investment priorities.
  • After hours support and work for escalated priority and urgent issues. This may require late after-hours weekend and / or holiday work depending on the severity of the issue.
  • Manage and participate in on call support rotation for development team to support related systems as required.
  • Extended support during peak season (January April) to accommodate system availability and optimal performance during high traffic use period.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in computer science or computer engineering or equivalent experience
  • Five (5) Years minimum relevant experience (10 years preferred) and at least 3 year of leadership experience
  • Five (5) years of JavaScript software development experience including and TypeScript experience
  • Experience learning legacy solutions with complex data dependencies owning end-to-end management of custom software including endpoint management and custom development to support APIs and batch data transfers with external vendors and public-facing communication via email/SMS/etc.
