Job Description:

Avionics Technician-Ground Test Inspector (GTI) will be responsible for the planning execution and validation of Ground Tests in the Final Assembly Line. This includes the demonstration of conformity
within aircraft systems to the design specifications through attestation in the Airbus Test System (ESAO). Initiate actions to isolate document and ultimately eliminate any deviations detected.

Airbus is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner (per DoDI 1322.29). This 180-day program allows transitioning service members to leverage their military technical expertise in a high-precision aerospace environment.

SkillBridge Eligibility:

  • Active-duty service member within 180 days of separation.
  • Written Commander (O-4 or above) authorization.
  • Must have current work authorization for U.S. positions.

Mobile AL

U.S. Assembly Facility
On Airbus Way you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015 the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. The facility which strengthens the U.S. aerospace industry is part of Airbus strategy to enhance its global competitiveness by meeting the growing needs of its customers in the United States and beyond.

Kinson NC
The Airbus Aerosystems Kinston facility sits at the forefront of aerospace manufacturing specializing in the production of large advanced composite aerostructures. Our team builds critical components for the state-of-the-art Airbus A350 XWB including the composite center fuselage and wing spar.

Columbus MS
On the eastern border of Mississippi youll find Columbus home to our Helicopter manufacturing and assembly lines and Center of Excellence for the entire North America region. Its here that we produce the UH-72A Lakota Helicopters for the U.S. Army in addition to the H-125 aircraft for civil and commercial customers.

Your Challenges:

Perform Ground Tests

  • Prepare the aircraft and workstation surroundings for ground tests on various avionics and electrical systems in a safe environment.

  • Perform function tests on all systems (flight controls navigation passenger entertainment etc.) in parallel to the assembly of the aircraft from beginning to Flight Testing.

  • Organize documentation of any non-conformity in the SAP NC system and initiate associated retests (Repeat Test Instruction) after finalization of rework.

  • Collaborate with Ground Test Design Engineering- Quality- and Shop Floor departments.

Perform Troubleshooting (T/S)

  • Perform troubleshooting on test systems and on aircraft systems.

  • Prepare and coordinate troubleshooting and distinguish error types.

  • Clarify problems with the engineering department

  • Ensure the safety of people and the aircraft all along the process until the test closes up.

  • Execute ground test following released documents and their associated work orders based on quality cost and time.

  • And enters records the values plotted during the test when measurements are required inside released documents.

Support improvement measures

  • Identify problems internally in order to continuously improve the On Time On Quality production process.

  • Perform and check operational tests and attest the conformity of the aircraft or a major constituent assembly in accordance with released documentation (e.g. Ground Test Instructions (GTIs) Repeat Test Instructions (RTIs) Retest Sheet Work Order (WO) ).

  • Perform upload of software equipment on/off aircraft and already installed on aircraft if needed.

  • Extract electrical schematics for troubleshooting and perform specific tests to identify root cause failure.

  • Launch Practical Problem Solving (PPS) for continuous improvements.

  • GTP performs root cause analysis if the test result is not compliant with released documents.

  • Investigation: Test tool failure A/C equipment failure or A/C installation discrepancy.

  • Declaration and follow up of non conformity (e.g. NC design deviation ground test user request..) for rework or certification according to the good procedure.

Your Boarding Pass:

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma/ GED

  • Ability to successfully complete trainings provided by Airbus

  • Health & Safety

  • General aircraft familiarization

  • Quality Training

Preferred Education:

  • Training from a vocational school or previous employer in the use of application tools and in application techniques.

Required Experience:

  • 2 years minimum experience as an Aircraft Avionics Technician with a focus on aircraft systems (electrical preferred).

  • 2 years minimum of experience in trouble shooting on aircraft systems.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experienced in Quality Inspector on avionics systems.


Required Knowledge Skills Demonstrated Capabilities:

  • Knowledge of station safety quality (clean as you go / Foreign Object Debris) and OSHA regulations.
  • Keep tools and support equipment in safe operational conditions at all times.

Physical Requirements:

  • Vision: adequate to enter and read material on computer screens. Able to identify markings and digital outputs on calibrated tools. Able to identify individuals to initiate greetings the giving of directions and other business interactions

  • Hearing: able to hear sufficiently to engage in conversation in office settings. Able to hear safety alerts and warning signals.

  • Speaking: able to engage in conversations in person and via electronic means and deliver information to groups of varying size with or without amplification.

  • Equipment Operation: Able to operate a wide range of personal and office electronic equipment.

  • Working on jigs at the fuselage at a height of 15 feet. Able to work on hydraulic lifts sometimes at a height of up to 40 feet.

  • Carrying: able to occasionally carry up to 20 lbs./ while engaging in training addressing production issues or as part of continuous improvement projects.

  • Confined Space: able to enter and exit a 12 x 22 passage and work through a 9.7 x 17.7 opening while using a respirator within a confined space for various lengths of time.

  • Heights: able to work at heights of approximately 40 feet on various types of platforms and lifts for various lengths of time

  • Lifting: able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.

  • Pushing/Pulling: able to push/pull items in office areas and on the shop floor.

  • Sitting: able to sit for extended periods of time at the computer and in meetings.

  • Squatting/Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on.
