The Assistant Director of Residential Community Standards and Care is a live-in full-time professional staff member who plays a key leadership role in fostering a safe inclusive and developmentally supportive residential experience at Oxford College of Emory University.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Grounded in Oxfords mission as a two-year liberal arts college with a deeply residential ethos this position is designed to holistically support student success through the integration of student conduct administration non-clinical case management restorative practices coordination of bias-related responses and wellness education.
- Functioning as both the lead hearing officer and administrator for the residential community standards process as well as the coordinator of student support within Residential Education and Services (RES) this position provides students with consistent high-touch guidance through moments of challenge conflict and identity-based harm.
- Leads the coordination of bias-related incidents and responses within RES to ensure timely communication inclusive follow-up and educational outcomes that uphold university policy and community values.
- This position also serves in the senior-level on-call rotation providing director-level consultation decision-making and crisis response support to ensure comprehensive and consistent student care after hours.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues across Campus Life Academic Affairs and Student Support units to coordinate care guide restorative processes and advance equitable community standards practices.
- Through proactive outreach restorative engagement and intentional response efforts this role reinforces Oxfords commitment to a residential environment where every student feels seen supported and valued.
CORE POSITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES COMMUNITY STANDARDS ADMINISTRATION:
- Serves as the lead hearing officer and community standards administrator for residential cases coordinating all aspects of the community standards process from incident referral to resolution.
- Implements restorative and educational outcomes in response to policy violations ensuring that community standards practices reflect Oxfords commitment to student development and Emory Universitys policies and procedures.
- Oversees the conduct clearance process for student eligibility verifications ensuring accuracy consistency and confidentiality in accordance with institutional policies. Maintains records provides timely clearance determinations and collaborates with offices such as Student Conduct Global Education and Campus Life to uphold compliance and equitable review standards.
- Maintains and monitors student hearing records in Simplicity Advocate ensuring accuracy FERPA compliance and appropriate follow-through.
- Analyzes trends to identify patterns of behavior that require intervention or preventative education.
- Provides onboarding training and continuing education for residential staff and student leaders on policy enforcement incident reporting conflict mediation and documentation protocols.
- Collaborates with the Associate Dean of Campus Life/Director of Residential Education and Services to align community standards processes with institutional values national best practices and evolving regulatory requirements (e.g. Title IX Clery FERPA).
STUDENT SUPPORT CASE MANAGEMENT AND CARE COORDINATION:
- Serves as a care responder and coordinator for residential students of concern working closely with students experiencing emotional distress interpersonal conflict academic difficulty or other personal challenges.
- Coordinates the response to bias-related reports within Oxford College in alignment with college policies and procedures.
- Ensures incidents are documented triaged and referred appropriately; maintains compliance with institutional equity standards; and collaborates with Community Standards to uphold fair transparent and educational outcomes.
- Works in close partnership with the Director of Student Success and Support Initiatives to track and manage complex student concerns providing updates care plans and coordination support across departments.
- Engages in non-clinical case management including outreach follow-up and referrals to campus resources such as Center for Counseling and Wellbeing Student Health Services Department of Accessibility Services and Academic Affairs.
- Supports students navigating hospitalization medical withdrawals family emergencies and re-entry to the college ensuring that transitions are intentional compassionate and aligned with community expectations.
- Participates in regular case review and behavioral intervention team meetings offering insight from a residential lens.
EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH AND PREVENTION PROGRAMMING:
- Develops and leads educational initiatives and programming focused on personal decision- making well-being identity development and community engagement.
- Collaborates with campus partners on proactive outreach campaigns in areas such as mental health awareness alcohol and other drug education conflict resolution and bias prevention.
- Provides facilitation support and consultation for restorative conversations re-entry circles and other community-building processes when trust or connection has been disrupted.
- Serves as a content expert and resource to RAs and student organizations seeking to create inclusive caring and values-driven communities.
CRISIS MANAGEMENT EMERGENCY RESPONSE AND INSTITUTIONAL OPERATIONS:
- Participates in the 24/7 senior-level on-call rotation (Deans Director etc.) responding to student and community crises behavioral escalations and incidents that require after-hours support.
- Serves as essential personnel during institutional emergencies including inclement weather power outages public health events and campus-wide disruptions.
- Provides in-person support and follow-up after critical incidents ensuring that students and staff receive timely care and the community is stabilized.
- Assists with the design and implementation of duty protocols on-call training and emergency response documentation for the RES team.
- Contribute to institutional operations such as move-in move-out orientation and commencementÂmoments of transition that are key to student experience and belonging.
- Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A masters degree in higher education administration counseling or a related field and two years of residence life experience OR an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
