Job Summary

Job Summary

Responsible for compiling verifying and the timely and accurate processing of payroll checks. Prepares and submits federal and state reports as needed. Employee is responsible for ensuring compliance with labor laws resolving pay discrepancies and serves as the main point of contact for employee pay related inquiries.

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain regular and prompt attendance physically present to work.
  • Performs after hours work as required (nights and weekends).
  • Assist with emergency response as needed by city hall and local EOC.
  • Maintain vacation and sick leave accruals.
  • Transfer Direct Deposit files to Bank.
  • Summarizes monthly payroll reports for Texas Municipal Retirement System.
  • Compiles and prepares tax reports and returns.
  • Prepares and submits Texas Employment Commission and state report on a quarterly basis.
  • Prepares and uploads ICMA reports.
  • Processes claims.
  • Assists on reconciliation of benefits.
  • Process Accounts Payable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must have High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • One (1) to three (3) years of related work experience to perform such job.
  • Applicant must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at Citys expense.
  • Applicant must have current valid Class C Drivers License and be insurable.
  • Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.

Knowledge Abilities and Skill

  • Knowledge of payroll software and accounting principles.
  • Understanding of tax laws and wage regulations practices and procedures of the departments and office operations.
  • Strong attention to details accuracy and organizational skills.
  • Effective interpersonal oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate and able to multi-task.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with integrity.
  • Exceptional mathematical and calculation skills.
  • Recordkeeping and clerical skills.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Occasional walking standing and stooping.
  • Occasional lifting moving or positioning objects up to 30lbs.
