JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Manager of Research and Scholarship provides expertise in the field of research educational or project/program grants. This position serves as a resource for the Associate Dean for Nursing Research and the College of Nursing (CON). This position is for the day-to-day management of various grant activities including preparation submission financial oversight and reporting for the CON. This position has significant budgetary responsibility for the department.



Responsibilities
  1. Develops prepares and reviews complex grant and contract budgets; researches salary data and calculates appropriate effort distributions; advises faculty on allocation of grant funds in compliance with sponsor and College of Nursing requirements.
  2. Arranges and schedules conferences meetings conference calls and other events as needed in regard to grant submissions; initiates correspondence to grant personnel outside agencies departments and University officials related to grant submissions.
  3. Develops revises and monitors grant budgets; performs ledger reconciliations and prepares cost transfer documentation as needed.
  4. Creates shadow budgets for each grant tracks and files expenses and invoices and reconciles in coordination with grant personnel.
  5. Receives and reviews sub-award invoices and serves as liaison between the College of Nursing and the Office of Sponsored Programs.
  6. Plans coordinates and monitors administrative components required for timely and compliant proposal submissions.
  7. Communicates with and provides an advanced level of guidance and direction to individuals included in a particular grant during proposal writing and grant submission.
  8. Provides advanced guidance on grant-supported personnel actions including necessary labor distribution entries conducts employee compensation compliance reviews and completes student stipend documentation.
  9. Provides consultative guidance and direction to faculty business managers and supports staff through proposal development and submission.
  10. Serves as a subject matter expert for sponsored research funding; assists in translating funding concepts into compliant proposals and budgets. Routes proposals sub-awards and research service agreements through university approval systems.
  11. Assist faculty in identifying funding opportunities; analyzes funding opportunity announcements and translate sponsor and institutional requirements into compliant grant submissions advising faculty on allowable costs effort commitments and submission requirements.
  12. Assists with post-award administration including progress reports non-competing continuations and sponsor-required documentation.
  13. Compiles and submits timely and accurate grant performance reports non-competing continuations and other related progress reports to funding agencies.
  14. Maintains knowledge of applicable regulations and participates in university research administration initiatives.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:Bachelors Degree. (Masters Degree preferred) (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of professional experience with grants and research in an academic or business setting. Three (3) years of professional experience supervising employees and developing managing and tracking budgets is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Advanced knowledge of sponsored research administration including proposal development submission and post-award processes.
  • Strong analytical financial and project management skills to develop monitor and manage complex grant budgets and timelines.
  • Ability to analyze grant-related financial and programmatic data and support reporting evaluation and compliance requirements.
  • Strong organizational interpersonal and verbal communication and consensus building skills including the ability to present complex information clearly in non-technical language.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and work with minimal supervision while contributing effectively as part of collaborative teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities deadlines and competing demands in a fast-paced research administration environment.
  • Ability to analyze and present data and program information orally and in writing and in non-technical language. Ability to convey complex financial regulatory and programmatic information clearly and effectively.
  • Excellent organizational research writing and speaking skills. Proficient with Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint FrontPage Publisher Outlook Express Office Picture Manager Adobe Acrobat Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro or comparable software programs.
  • Knowledge of financial statement analysis asset valuation cost management and organizational performance is preferred.

WORK SCHEDULE:This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings. May require occasional overnight travel.
