Role Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Consumer Underwriting Assistant Manager/Team Leader or Consumer Underwriting Manager/Team Leader the Sr. Underwriter is responsible for rendering high-quality decisions on consumer loan requests (both direct and indirect). This role ensures strict adherence to Gesas underwriting standards while adeptly identifying and proposing tailored alternative solutions that best meet applicants financial needs. Possessing advanced to expert-level comprehensive job knowledge this position is crucial for cultivating and expanding dealership portfolios through strategic outreach as well as nurturing robust relationships with branch partners. The Sr. Underwriter demonstrates a proven capacity to manage significant responsibilities beyond the scope of a standard Underwriter role serving as a vital resource for other Underwriters by providing expert guidance answering complex inquiries handling escalations and actively engaging in mentorship coaching and training initiatives.

What You Will Be Doing:

  1. Apply critical thinking skills and solid lending principles according to the needs of each applicant and their risk profile; construct and approve loan offers in accordance with delegated approval authority and loan policy independently.
  2. Evaluate and mitigate risk while maintaining profitability associated with extending credit requests.
  3. Apply underwriting guidelines in making and defending loan decisions independently.
  4. Identify and recommend additional lending opportunities to increase relationships with members.
  5. Provide accurate pricing and terms to dealerships in a courteous/professional manner.
  6. Ensure compliance with legal requirements lending regulations and internal policies and procedures.
  7. Maintain positive relationships with colleagues and business partners.
  8. Maintain the highest level of confidentiality relative to information received directly or indirectly.
  9. Adhere to all local state and federal laws/regulatory requirements as related to functional areas including Truth in Lending Reg B Reg Z and Bank Secrecy Act.
  10. Generate new and innovative ways to streamline processes.
  11. Serve on project teams for expertise as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  12. Responsible for department training needs.
  13. Display mutual respect trust and dignity acting in the best interest of the credit union. Lead by example by always displaying solid ethics and integrity.
  14. Ensure that all issues are managed in a fair legal and consistent manner.

About You:

  1. To maintain up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of all laws credit union products services policies and procedures regarding areas of responsibility and to remain highly tuned to the marketplace member needs and patterns of external market changes.
  2. Demonstrate ability in conducting credit analysis including credit reporting credit investigation and cash flow analysis.
  3. Demonstrate ability to make decisions in a timely manner and articulate the reasoning for decisions.
  4. Demonstrate ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands effectively.
  5. Demonstrate ability to work effectively both collaboratively and independently.
  6. Ability to independently analyze research and resolve medium to high complexity problems.
  7. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  8. Proficient mathematical skills with a high degree of accuracy.
  9. Proficiency with MS office Suites (Word Excel Outlook)
  10. Ability to work outside of business hours including weekends (Sundays included) and holidays.
  11. Ability to develop and/or improve processes implement and administer policies and procedures and organize and present information.
  12. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and business partners.
  13. Ability to analyze and underwrite a high volume of applications to make sound lending decisions with granted authority and identify potential risks and solutions.


Qualifications

What You Will Need:

  1. High School Degree (or equivalent) required. College degree preferred.
  2. Five (5) to eight (8) years of experience in an underwriting environment where loans are built and approved.
  3. Advanced knowledge of FICO preferred.
  4. Working knowledge of CUDL Dealer Track and Route One programs preferred.
  5. Valid drivers license required.

Full Salary Range:

$29.90-$49.83

*While our full pay range is listed most new team members typically start between the minimum and midpoint based on their experience and qualifications. This approach gives room to grow within the role as your career progresses with us!
