This is a Full-Time 40 hours weekly position with the Human Services Center. For more information on the Human Services Center please visit .
Assess diagnose and provide therapeutic care to adolescent adult and geriatric patients. Provides assistance to the Psychiatric Department by providing direct psychiatric assessments and interventions. This position will be primarily assigned to Adolescent Psychiatric Services but will provide coverage across the age spectrum noted.
This position:
- conducts admissions by performing comprehensive psychiatric evaluations;
- develops diagnostic impressions using DSM V criteria;
- documents assessments interventions and on-going treatment following best practices and HSC Policies and Procedures;
- completes discharge summaries as required and in compliance with HSC Policies and Procedures;
- identifies conducts requests and interprets results of special screening and laboratory tests;
- participates on treatment team staffings as necessary;
- performs on-call duties as necessary;
- makes daily rounds as required to provide follow-up treatment and assessments; and
- develops medical records from examination and test findings.
Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday with weekend rotation and on-call rotation after hours and holidays.
Licenses and Certifications:
Applicant must possess a certificate noting successful completion of a psychiatric nurse practitioner curriculum and examination approved by the South Dakota State Board of Nursing.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Knowledge of:
- acute and chronic behavioral health issues from adolescents through geriatric years;
- conducting psychiatric admission evaluations; inpatient treatment; & discharge of patients
- the practices and procedures of providing psychiatric interventions according to best practice guidelines;
- DSM V criteria;
- use of psychotropic medications to treat acute and chronic behavioral health issues;
- comprehensive treatment approach for patients with severe and persistent mental illness;
- community resources available;
- teaching methods employed in in-service training.
Ability to:
- work as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team;
- perform admission psychiatric evaluations;
- recognize and deal constructively with the needs and concerns of patients and families;
- complete discharge summaries;
- provide patient and family education;
- conduct clinical evaluations;
- communicate behavioral health needs and information clearly and concisely.
This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.
This position is eligible for Veterans Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation. An arrest/conviction record will not necessarily bar employment. Successful applicant(s) will undergo an abuse and neglect screening. Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of a drug screening.
