The Office of State Parks (OSP) serves the citizens of Louisiana and visitors by preserving and interpreting natural areas of unique or exceptional scenic value planning developing and operating sites that provide outdoor recreation opportunities in natural surroundings preserving and interpreting historical and scientific sites of statewide importance and administering intergovernmental programs related to outdoor recreation and trails.

This position is located at Chicot State Park/Louisiana State Arboretum in Ville Platte LA. The purpose of this position is to assist with and train personnel on horticultural procedures and techniques for planting and maintenance preventing invasive species and coordinating planting schedules for seasonal activities. They will perform groundskeeping and custodial duties to help maintain cleanliness and a safe environment for the customers. This position will also provide assistance and high-level customer service to guests regarding questions programming etc.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Performs custodial duties necessary to maintain clean and sanitary conditions of park facilities.

  • Coordinates planting schedule for seasonal activities

  • Trains personnel on proper horticultural procedures and techniques for planting and maintenance and procedures to prevent invasive species.

  • Assists with maintaining park grounds such as mowing grass blowing off walkways and porches collecting litter removing limbs and debris trail maintenance and emptying trash receptacles.
  • Provides a high level of customer service and assists customers with inquiries over the phone or in person.

Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type:Probational Promotional or Detail to Special Duty
Location:Chicot State Park/Louisiana State Arboretum in Ville Platte LA
Work Schedule: State Parks are open 365 days a year. Position will work a rotating schedule of 40 hours/week that can include holidays and/or weekends as needed to ensure coverage at the park.
Travel:Position requires driving around the park as part of the daily shift. A state vehicle is available for employee use while on duty.
Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Park Technician A B or C.As part of a Career Progression Group vacancies may be filled based on the qualifications of the selected applicant.
