Job Summary:
Senior Technical Professional - Field Engineering Position
- The principal technical professional supports the F/A-18 engineering Fleet Support Team and supports the daily operations of aircraft maintenance. This position supports the Naval Aviation Enterprise by ensuring on-time modification efforts for the F/A-18 E/F & EA-18G Service Life Modification (SLM) program and the F/A-18 C/D High Flight Hour program.
- This role provides direct Subject Matter Expert team support technical guidance and program/project coordination with internal teams and external stakeholders to optimize maintenance execution inspection quality and overall aircraft readiness. Supports management and execution of pre-modification corrosion identification inspections and mitigation efforts to reduce repair growth and improve modification turnaround time. The position ensures efficient workflow management drives data-informed technical solutions and maintains the highest standards of safety compliance and operational performance in accordance with Naval Policies.
- The candidate will have proven Naval Aviation maintenance management background; well-versed in F/A-18 & EA-18G systems and structural components; experience in Service Life Modification (SLM) initiatives; extensive knowledge of corrosion mitigation processes; expertise in fleet flight line operations systems knowledge of databases such as IETMs DECKPLATE MRO and Depot Issue Reporting (DIR); strong data analytics skills; proficient in conducting overall maintenance inspections as well as possess technical directive knowledge.

Role and Responsibilities:
- Serves as the program advisory lead for the F/A-18 Fleet Support Team (FST) Engineering Maintenance Readiness Team (MRT) providing technical expertise for highly time-critical projects or tasks requiring specialized knowledge in technical and modification areas.
- Supports the SLM Integrated Product Team (IPT) and SLM Program Integrators (PI) in executing SLM analytics supports internal and site teams overseeing Pre- and Post-SLM inspections and coordinating corrosion data collection to optimize aircraft modification efficiency. Position contributes to the creation of technical requirements for Pre- and Post-Service Life Modifications to improve repair quality minimize modification costs and reduce turnaround times.
- Provides program/project management support to drive completion of the F/A-18 C/D High Flight Hour and E/F Service Life Modification (SLM) programs ensuring timely and effective team contribution to the F/A-18 aircraft full-service life extension goal of 10000 flight hours.
- Coordinates with engineers to provide technical advice and assist with problem resolution particularly in support of aircraft service life modifications Life Limited Repairs and inspection processes.
- Provides oversight guidance and coordination across multiple stakeholders to optimize program outcomes inspection quality and maintenance efficiency.
- Assist the government assess the technical sufficiency quality and timely delivery of program deliverables.
- Collaborates with NAVAIR PMA-265 FST Engineering TYCOM Depot personnel and squadron leadership to ensure effective execution of F/A-18 pre- and post-SLM inspections.
- Assist FST Structure Engineers in the management of the Life Limited Repair Program ensuring timely completion of inspections that reduced maintenance delays and increased aircraft availability for scheduled operations and deployments.
- Provides support in the development and refinement of Depot tools (Depot Issue Reporting) to improve data collection and analysis for aircraft repair and upgrade activities. Assists in creating Focus Area Lists (FAL) to identify high-impact areas that drive better planning reduce repair growth and enhance overall program efficiency.
- Advise on acquisition and program management activities offering guidance to government leadership on challenges related to modification service life extension delivery planning and integration efforts. Contribute technical insights during system program reviews to ensure alignment with program objectives and readiness requirements.
- Assist in the coordination of aircraft service life event planning and process execution for efficient and effective completion of work and expeditious return to flight status.
- Ensure teams comply with CNAF 4790.2 series policies and consistently apply IETMs and NAVAIR engineering information including drawings publications and bulletins to support accurate high-quality maintenance and modification work across all sites.
- Ensure currency of all DoD and NAVAIR Data Management policies procedures and industry standards.
- Participate in ongoing efforts to improve operational processes sharing best practices and supporting initiatives that enhance quality cost-effectiveness and team performance.
Basic Qualifications:
- Clearance:U.S. Citizen. A current active Secret clearance is required.
- Candidate must have 12 plus years of relevant technical experience (required).
- Bachelors Degree is preferred but a combination of education and experience that provides knowledge and exposure to the fundamental theories principles and concepts within specific discipline can be utilized.
- Computer skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint) and the capability to learn use and master the positions required computer applications.
- Well-versed in F/A-18 E-G systems and structural components have experience in Service Life Modification (SLM) initiatives and have extensive knowledge of corrosion mitigation processes.
- Expertise in fleet flight line operations systems knowledge of databases such as IETMs DECKPLATE MRO and Depot Issue Reporting (DIR) along with having strong data analytics capabilities.
- Proficient in conducting overall maintenance inspections as well as possessing technical directive knowledge.
- Must be familiar with USN/USMC programs and NAVAIR data source applications.
Primary Location: San Diego CA (onsite at customer location.)
Compensation: $117370.00 - $176000.00. The salary range posted is for California locations. The offered rate will be based on the selected candidates knowledge skills abilities and/or experience contract affordability and in consideration of internal parity.
