Department Overview
The Research Engineer 2 will serve as a senior technical contributor and project lead for advanced scientific and engineering initiatives. This role requires a high degree of independence in conceptualizing designing and executing complex experimental and engineering efforts particularly in the development of cutting-edge biomedical imaging systems. The Research Engineer II will take primary ownership of system architecture integration and optimization translating scientific objectives into robust engineering solutions.
This position also entails coordinating technical activities across multidisciplinary teams providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior researchers and associates and contributing to project planning timelines and risk mitigation. The Research Engineer 2 is expected to proactively identify technical challenges propose innovative solutions and ensure high standards of scientific rigor reproducibility and engineering quality.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in optics and electrical engineering with demonstrated proficiency in designing and implementing complex biomedical imaging systems. Strong problem-solving skills the ability to manage multiple technical projects concurrently and a proven track record of independent technical leadership are essential. A strong commitment to scientific integrity documentation and best engineering practices is required.
Function/Duties of Position
Lead and execute advanced engineering and scientific experiments; define methods controls and validation criteria.
Analyze and interpret complex datasets; develop/maintain analysis pipelines to drive technical decisions and next steps.
Prepare concise technical documentation and present results/design reviews to stakeholders; ensure reproducibility and traceability.
Lead cross-functional integration of biomedical imaging systems (optical/electrical/software); troubleshoot optimize performance and mentor others as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors in relevant field AND 3 years of relevant experience
Advanced knowledge of optics and electrical engineering for biomedical imaging systems.
Ability to independently design integrate and troubleshoot complex experimental systems.
Strong data analysis problem-solving and technical documentation skills.
Effective communication and collaboration in multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience leading technical projects or system-level integration efforts.
Proficiency in custom software data acquisition or control system development.
Experience mentoring junior researchers or contributing to publications/grants.
