Primary Purpose:
The High School Athletic Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the districts athletic programs and philosophies as well as for coordinating the program in the high school and middle schools. The boys campus athletic coordinator will also assume the responsibilities of the head football coach. The salary for this position is as negotiated by the Superintendent.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with physical education endorsement preferred
- Current first aid cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate
- Clear and valid Texas commercial drivers license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements (optional)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
- Possess a thorough knowledge of all UIL rules and regulations.
- Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes
- Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical if bus driving duties are required.
- Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills
Experience:
- Five years of successful teaching and coaching experience
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinator Administration
- Coordinate and administer the campus athletic program in accordance with Waxahachie ISD athletic objectives and policy.
- Consult with the Athletic Director Business and High School Sports in the assignments of campus athletic staff.
- Make boys high school coaching assignments with the approval of the principal and Athletic Director.
- Coordinate all campus-level athletic schedules.
- Maintain a complete and accurate high school athletic equipment inventory.
- Submit any and all necessary requests as per the WISD athletic administration.
- Monitor the boys middle school implementation of philosophies schemes strategies techniques skills offenses and defenses as stressed by the high school head coach.
- Manage any and all boys campus-based athletic booster club functions.
- Supervise the performance of all campus-based programs.
- Manage the campus athletic facilities through the Athletic Director Director of Facilities Operations and Middle School Sports.
- Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis. Model performance criteria and physical movements required for successful student performance of sport.
- Understand and effectively communicate the process of all areas of the National Clearinghouse as defined by the NCAA to athletes and parents as it pertains to all types of grant-in-aid programs.
- Assist all other coaches in the planning and management of their programs as needed.
- Assist with the management of all UIL competitive activities that occur at the home campus as well as additional tournaments/meets held within the district.
- Develop a program to ensure that all phases of UIL compliance are adequately addressed each year with athletes staff parents faculty and the community.
- Complete an annual evaluation of all boys head coaches assigned to that campuss sports programs.
- Assist the department of athletics with annual reviews and recommendations of all related boys sports interscholastic competitive programs provided by the district.
Coaching
- Manage and supervise athletic activities contests and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills teamwork and good sportsmanship.
- Work with other members of the school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.
- Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes equipment materials and facilities.
- Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
- Work with the athletic director to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements.
- Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the coaching program and make changes based on findings.
- Accompany and supervise student athletes during specific athletic competitions in assigned sports for out-of-town trips.
- Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
- Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests practice sessions and while on trips off school property in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook.
- Encourage by example and through instruction sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
- Oversee the process of cleaning repairing and storing all campus athletic equipment.

- Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned.
- Work with other members of the school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.

- Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports both at-home and on out-of-town trips.
- Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
- Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests practice sessions and while on trips off school property in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Encourage by example and through instruction sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
Communication
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents students principals and teachers.
Other
- Assist in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.
- Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required.
- Initiate and approve purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies.
- Oversee the process of cleaning repairing and storing all campus athletic equipment and maintain a current inventory of all equipment and fixed assets within the program.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrators that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Assign and oversee the completion of the work of assistant coaches and student athletic assistants.
