Job Summary

The Manager Payroll and Benefits completes the accurate and timely bi-weekly payroll processing for multiple employee groups across various provinces and states ensuring full compliance with all applicable legislation. This role completes required payroll activities including tax filings benefit and pension remittances reconciliations and year-end addition the Manager administers employee benefits programs such as health dental pension plans and 401(k). This position also plays a critical role in maintaining data integrity within the HRIS by ensuring accurate information entry and updates. The Manager ensures that all payroll and benefits processes are executed with precision compliance and a strong focus on delivering a positive employee experience. This is a hands-on role that requires attention to detail and alignment with organizational goals legal requirements and best practices.

Location

This is a hybrid work arrangement based out of our Home Office location in St. George Ontario and requires a minimum of 3 days per week in office and the other days can work remotely.

Employment Type

This is a full-time contract position with an anticipated start date of March 2026 June 2027. This role is being posted due to an upcoming leave.

Salary Range

The annual salary range for this position is $60000 - $75000 depending on the skill and experience level of the selected incumbent.

Key Responsibilities:

PayrollProcessing

  • Completeend-to-end payroll processing for all employees(USA) ensuring accuracy timeliness and compliance with federal andState
  • Maintain and manage the relationship with the managed service provider forCanadianpayroll services ensuring service quality compliance andtimelyissue resolution.
  • Ensure managed service provider has all requiredinformation to processan accurateandtimelyCanadian Payroll.
  • Audit managed service providerinput and processing foraccuracy prior to payroll submission.
  • Support with the identification and onboarding of a managed service provider to process the US Payroll (anticipated: Fall 2026)
  • Actas theback-upfor the fullend-to-end payroll processing for all employees (CAN) ensuring accuracy timeliness and compliance withall
  • Collaborate with Finance on payroll reconciliations and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinating and conducting biweekly end-of-month end-of-quarter and year-end payroll activities ( processing T4/RL1 W2s accruals summaries Workers Compensation annual returns EHT annual return year-end balancing etc.)
  • Administering and balancing payroll-related remittances to various agencies and vendors ( filings benefit premiums pension contributions etc.)
  • Ensuringaccurateaccounting treatment of payroll transactions as well asfacilitatingreconciliation of payroll-related accounts with the Finance Department
  • Auditing registers and reports to ensure all payroll processing data isaccurate
  • Serving as a payroll and benefits subject matter expert and keeping on top of process changes or enhancements that will improve payroll productivity
  • Respond to employee inquiriesregardingpayroll ina timelyand professional manner.

Benefits Administration

  • Tracking benefit and pension eligibility according to plan documentsrelatedlegislationandestablishedinternal practices.
  • Supportwithany openenrollment periods and/or operationalize anyupdates to thebenefitand/or pension/401K plans.
  • Ensurebenefitandpensionat source deductions are
  • Completeall assigned tasksrelated to the administration ofall employee benefit programs including health dental vision life insurance disability retirement plans and wellness initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with benefit providers and brokers ensuringtimelyandaccuratecommunication and issue resolutionrelated to billing and customer service
  • Ensure all related bills are paid on time reconciledand

HRIS Administration & Data Integrity

  • Accurate input ofemployee information within the HRIS system includingbutnot limited to new hire informationbenefitsand payroll data.
  • Train other HR users for input into the HRIS Systembased on established practicesandSOP
  • Partner with HR team members to ensuretimelyupdates for new hires terminations and changes to employee status.
  • Generate reports and analytics from HRIS to support decision-making and compliance requirements.
  • SupportannualEmployee Engagement Survey.
  • Act asprimaryHRcontact for the annual Finance
  • Support HR projects related to total rewards systemupgrades andprocessimprovementsand others as assigned.

Does this sound like you

  • University/college education in Business Human Resources or related field or equivalent experience
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation and a minimum of four years experience with payroll administration in a multi-province/multi-country environmentwithseasonal fluctuationsof employee numbers from150 toapproximately 500 employees
  • Experience with benefit and pension plan administration and accounting
  • Proficiency in payroll and HRIS software as well as Microsoft Word Excel Outlook etc.
  • Experience using PayworksDayforce (Ceridian)and BambooHR software would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of legislation related to human resources and/or payroll across multiplejurisdictionswithin Canada and the United States
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adhere to strict deadlines
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational attention to detail and planning skills
  • Bilingual (English and French) an asset
