Duties and Responsibilities
1. *Serves as Public Information and Marketing Specialist for Student Housing Services (SHS) University of Hawaii at Manoa overseeing both internal and external communications public relations and the marketing strategy to aid department in meeting objectives and goals.
2. *In collaboration with the SHS Director defines and develops strategic media relations plan for internal and external audiences.
3. *Responsible for development implementation coordination and tracking of all media relations for external groups using traditional media (print broadcast video information releases) and digital media (website & blog social media other graphic presentation materials) to include local regional national and international media groups.
4. *Responsible for development implementation and coordination of all media for internal groups working with students staff department and college public information personnel UH System external public relations & special events staff.
5. *Develops and maintains professional contacts within the University at every level to better connect University initiatives successes to ensure proper and consistent content communications.
6. *Oversees the preparation dissemination archiving and storage of news releases articles for publication public service announcements department newsletters and other forms of public communications.
7. *Provides content for the units website video channels and social media distribution venues assists with writing and producing video as needed.
8. Monitors comments or posts; responds directly or connect user with appropriate personnel for response.
9. Oversees proactive outreach to traditional and digital media entities to encourage external coverage of SHS residential activities.
10. Advises administrators and staff on talking points at news conferences or during interviews with the media.
11. Coordinates SHS public relations response to crisis situations advising administration managers and University-level public information officers in crisis communication. Collaborate with University of Hawaii Office of Communications to develop write and disseminate news releases and media advisories for SHS and that are in alignment with department and UHMs mission and long-range strategic plan(s).
12. Collaborate with various University PIO/Communications/Marketing personnel to ensure consistency and alignment across the Manoa campus.
13. Oversees the maintenance of the SHS media database.
14. Keeps abreast of the latest media technologies and adapts them as appropriate to the SHS media relations direction; ensuring ADA compliance and best practices for technical security and scalability standards.
15. Using analytical tools available determines what programs projects and channels are successful and unsuccessful to guide and regularly update overall social media strategy.
16. May supervise the work of lower-level staff.
17. May serve on University committees and attends University functions on behalf of SHS including representation of SHS to UH Manoa and UH System media teams.
18. *Works nights weekends and holidays as necessary.
19. Maintains active communication via company-issued cell phone to provide real-time updates and respond promptly to urgent inquiries or operational needs.
20. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Journalism Communications Public Relations Marketing or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for journalism public relations/media experience at an institution of higher education; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
2. Experience in creating effective presentations that display data events and activities in a clear concise manner using a variety of media.
3. Experience in writing and editing news releases articles and speeches and adapting them to various audiences including community members State entities and the general media.Desirable Qualifications
