About the opportunity:
The Education First Youth Foyers (EFYF) are an innovative partnership model to help young people experiencing homelessness build sustainable lives by providing and combining affordable accommodation education training and employment. Youth Foyers help break the cycle of homelessness create opportunities and help young people lead independent and fulfilling lives.

Launch Housing in partnership with the Brotherhood of St Laurence has opened two Education First Youth Foyers Holmesglen Foyer based at Holmesglen Institutes Glen Waverley campus and the Education First Youth Foyer at Kangan Institute Broadmeadows.

Both foyers accommodate 40 young people between 16 and 24 years in studio style apartments with communal living and support service areas supervised by trained staff 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Key services include life skills development mental and physical health support drug and alcohol support mentoring and employment assistance.

The primary purpose of this role is to support the ongoing operation of the Education First Youth Foyer at either Kangan Institute Broadmeadows or Holmesglen Institute Glen Waverley. Youth Foyers are an innovative partnership model to help young people experiencing homelessness build sustainable lives.

Permanent part-time role (approximately 64 hours per fortnight) based at Broadmeadows.

What youll be doing:

    • Ensure the effective implementation of the Advantaged-Thinking approach.
    • Promote a culture of which promotes the aspirations of young people in keeping with the Advantaged Thinking philosophy.
    • Support the management of the day-to-day operations of the Youth Foyer to ensure annual operating plans and key performance indicators are achieved.
    • Adhere to the Youth Foyer Practice Guide and support the development and delivery of professional learning programs for students.
    • Support the provision of safe high-quality accommodation for young people including managing student dynamics and complex needs.
    • Contribute to the facilitation and promote participation from the students in the running of the Foyer and are resourced to become advocates for change.
    • Support the culture of developing positive language and talent building.

What were looking for (key selection criteria):

    • Tertiary qualifications in education community services or a related discipline.
    • A thorough background in and understanding of or a demonstrated ability to quickly acquire such knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
    • Advantaged Thinking
    • Community housing and social welfare programs
    • Education and learning including vocational education
    • Employment and Career Pathway Programs
    • Young peoples transitions and educational pathways
    • Demonstrated experience in building positive relationships and communicating effectively with internal and external contacts with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
    • Experience in advocating a culture which promotes the aspirations of young people in keeping with the Advantaged Thinking approach
    • High level confidentiality attention to detail self-organisation and being systematic.
    • Demonstrated capacity to complete tasks and effective time management.
    • Ability to work under specific direction as well as unsupervised
    • Must have a current full drivers licence
    • Permanent YDWs will work rostered shifts between the hours of 7:00am and 11:30pm across 7 days of the week.
    • Those identified as night workers and casuals will be required to be able to be rostered 24/7.

$45.92 - $47.12 an hour
