Description of Work

This is an anticipated vacancy: The position is in Operations Support within the Business Services Section. The primary purpose of this position is to provide support to law enforcement agencies and other customers with access to TraCS ECRS Crash Web and on-line access to DMV systems and to handle data control duties. Individual will be responsible for the maintenance of all manuals and guides used within Operations Support. This position provides prompt professional and accurate information relating to crash reports and to internal and external customers over the telephone and through written and/or electronic correspondence in a Help Desk Setting. The employee provides access and assistance to end-users and develops and executes training modules. The employee will establish contact with law enforcement agencies and facilitate the use of the electronic alternative for submitting data to the Division. Individual will perform client testing in cooperation with the DOT-IT Team.
Employees in this position will also perform coordinator duties with testing and provide all participants with a testing manual for User Agreement Testing (UAT). This position is needed to stay abreast of the growing need to support the expanding customer base. Since the implementation of TraCS (Traffic and Criminal Software) and the ECRS (Electronic Crash Reporting System) program the number of law enforcement agencies submitting crashes electronically continues to increase. Projections are for most if not all law enforcement agencies to submit crashes electronically. This increase creates the need for Help Desk personnel to assist users and administrators statewide. The need also exists for the Division to maintain contact with these agencies and provide on-going training as well as technical and customer support. This position requires travel and overnight stays occasionally.
The program area for this position includes one or more of the following: Working knowledge of DMV IT systems (STARS SADLS CRASH etc.) experience in technical support for trouble shooting problems or system issues user acceptance testing (UAT) and/or experience training others in the use of Records Management (Database or Excel).

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC10 $41655 - $72897

Management prefers applicants with the following:

  • Experience in customer service preferably in a Help Desk environment interpreting and explaining policies rules regulations and procedures to a diverse clientele and/or law enforcement.
  • Experience working with IT on system issues and/or UAT (user acceptance testing).
  • Experience using Excel including understanding and using formulas sorting and filtering data and creating/revising charts and graphs.
  • Experience retrieving referencing and processing information from various sources to compose technical and administrative reports including experience in accurately describing and logically organizing information that facilitates efficient access and retrieval for authorized personnel.
  • Experience troubleshooting problems distinguishing between relevant and irrelevant information to make logical decisions and providing solutions to individual and organizational problems.

Bachelors degree from appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
