LifeMoves is the largest and most effective provider of housing and services for neighbors experiencing homelessness in Silicon Valley since 1987. Our Mission is to end homelessness by providing interim housing supportive services and building collaborative partnerships. With 40 programs LifeMoves gives our neighbors experiencing homelessness a temporary place to call home while providing intensive customized case management through site-based programs and community outreach.
POSITION PURPOSE
The Temporary Director of Interim Supportive Housing Santa Clara County provides strategic leadership and oversight for a portfolio of programs within their assigned pathway of the department. This is an interim/temporary coverage role anticipated from February to July 2026. This role ensures the successful delivery of services by supervising Program Directors aligning program operations with agency values and advancing organizational goals. The Director fosters collaboration across teams manages complex systems and partnerships and ensures accountability to contract outcomes budget performance and quality standards. They serve as a key leader in shaping program vision supporting staff development and strengthening the departments overall impact.
The Temporary Director of Interim Supportive Housing ensures effective day-to-day operations across multiple temporary housing sites fostering environments that are safe clean and welcoming for all participants. This role guides Program Directors and site teams in delivering consistent high-quality services that promote stability connection and progress toward housing. The Director oversees site safety practices risk management and compliance activities and collaborates with internal departments to strengthen coordination and outcomes across programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide interim coverage including strategic leadership and oversight to a portfolio of programs across multiple sites.
Supervise and support Program Directors and other key staff guiding them in program implementation staff development and service excellence.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with organizational values and mission.
Oversee program performance contract compliance and reporting to funders and executive leadership.
Lead with a trauma-informed strengths-based and equity-driven approach.
Promote a culture of accountability continuous improvement and client-centered care.
General Agency Responsibilities
Participate in agency-wide meetings initiatives and training programs as needed or directed including but not limited to partner meetings board meetings and fundraising events
Fully participate in all required trainings. This includes completing trainings by assigned deadlines actively engaging during sessions and applying what you learn to your daily work.
Attend continuing education opportunities to grow expertise and uphold agency standards.
Be available to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed as described in the schedule.
Perform other duties as assigned to meet program and organizational needs.
Oversee daily operations staffing and facilities at interim housing programs.
Ensure 24/7 shelter programs run smoothly safely and with a focus on dignity and stabilization.
Partner closely with operations and maintenance teams to manage facilities and crisis response across sites.
QUALIFICATIONS
Masters Degree in a related field preferred; or a Bachelors Degree with 4-6 years of equivalent experience in a related field demonstrating increasing responsibility and scope. Related fields may include direct involvement in peer advocacy community outreach housing services or roles within the homelessness services field.
Minimum of five years of supervisory experience supporting staff or volunteers in a human services or related setting.
Minimum of three years in a leadership role within human or social services supporting vulnerable populations.
Comfortable using technology including phone and messaging systems email Microsoft and Google Suites and databases to complete administrative tasks case management reporting and tracking outcomes and performance management software.
Demonstrates empathy professionalism and respect for all individuals.
Uses de-escalation skills.
Provides guidance delegation and coaching to staff. Crisis Response: Responds effectively to crises using trauma-informed practices. Boundaries: Models healthy boundaries and professional conduct. Best Practices: Applies best practices in harm reduction and client engagement. Program Model and Philosophy: Consistently models agency values program philosophy and mission-aligned behaviors. Group Facilitation & Public Speaking Skills: Leads meetings facilitates groups and represents program values in all interactions.
Demonstrates experienced knowledge of budgeting processes and resource allocation to support program operations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This role provides supervision to Program Directors and Program Managers.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires regular travel between agency sites community partner locations client service events and internal and external meetings. As such:
A valid California drivers license and reliable transportation are required.
Must be able to travel throughout the Bay Area as part of regular duties.
Mileage reimbursement is provided in accordance with agency policy.
Occasional evening or weekend travel may be required to attend community events or support client services.
Must maintain vehicle insurance as required by law and agency policy.
