Background: To improve outcomes for all students SPS must recruit and retain a diverse team of educators to our district. Priority #2 of our district strategic plan (Empower Educators) requires us to make the Salem Public Schools an inclusive district where student-centered innovative and highly effective educators want to work grow and stay. To implement this priority the Office of Human Resources seeks three (3) educators who are passionate about the districts goal of diversifying our workforce and seek to develop/apply the skills needed to recruit and cultivate future educators to join our team! For instance currently 58% of our students are racially and ethnically diverse but only 14.3% of our teachers reflect this our strategic plan we aim to achieve at least 20% teachers of color (and 25% of all staff) by 2026.
What Youll Do: In the role of a Talent Finder Fellow you will assist the HR team with key talent recruitment and support efforts such as screening candidates assisting with job fairs and other events assisting candidates with licensure and other questions about working in the Salem Public Schools. Working part-time (some remote and some in-person) after school hours for approximately 5-7 hours per week you will apply creativity and ingenuity to identify and source potential candidates especially candidates of color cultivating their interest in the district/position encouraging them to apply and maintaining ongoing communications with applicants. You will also participate and help coordinate key recruitment events (e.g. job fairs networking events etc.) designed to attract new talent to our addition you will help screen applicants and assist the HR team with marketing job postings tracking results communications with school leaders/hiring teams and other recruitment-related tasks.
In this role you will receive training in anti-biased hiring practices and learn SPS internal recruitment strategies and systems. As a Talent Finder you will gain key leadership skills and competencies while working closely with the HR team the DEI Director as well as various school leaders.
Role Responsibilities:
- Assist with marketing of job postings via social media career fairs (help coordinate and attend) community-based recruitment events and other outlets
- Identify and source potential candidates for job postings especially candidates of color cultivating their interest in the district/position encouraging them to apply
- Cultivate potential candidates through outreach and communication strategies
- Assist with candidate screening by conducting initial resume review initial phone screens and helping to encourage prospective candidates to apply to appropriate positions
- Maintaining ongoing communications with applicants and answering candidates queries regarding the application process
- Monitor and track candidates throughout the process
- Support the human resources team (including benefits and payroll) with tasks and communications with candidates throughout the hiring and onboarding process
- Other duties as assigned
Proposed Timeline of Key Events:
- Onboarding/Start: January 2026
- Recruitment/Anti-Bias Training: January 2026
- TalentFinder Planning/Check-in Meetings: Biweekly (virtual and in-person) Jan - June 2026
- Ongoing candidate screening: Ongoing as needed (can be done remotely)
- Hiring Pool Job Fair/Candidate Screening Events: February March April May 2026
- Off-site Career Fairs: March-April 2026
- Wrap Up Meeting: June 2026
Qualifications:
- Internal Only - current active SPS educator (experience and/or knowledge of teaching and/or licensure is helpful in this role)
- Commitment to the districts strategic recruitment goals
- Ability to work remotely with some in-person meetings and events required
- Recommendation from supervisor
- Interest in developing recruitment skills (an essential skill for someone who would like to become a school leader)
- Skilled with use of google sheets and data analysis
- Strong commitment to cultural proficiency and the districts core values of belonging equity and opportunity
- Bilingual applicants (Spanish) and candidates of color are strongly encouraged to apply
