Job Summary
Job Description:
A Plasma Cutter Operatorsets up and runs CNC or manual plasma machines to cut metal parts from blueprints focusing on quality accuracy and safety by loading material adjusting settings (speed gas height) monitoring cuts performing basic maintenance and inspecting finished pieces for defects requiring mechanical aptitude detail orientation and adherence to safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation:Load/unload material operate plasma cutting machine (manual or CNC) select correct programs and monitor the cutting process.
- Setup & Adjustments:Set up machines adjust settings (torch height gas flow speed) and change consumables (tips electrodes) as needed.
- Quality Control:Read blueprints/prints verify material thickness/grade inspect parts for accuracy and ensure they meet specifications.
- Maintenance:Perform daily checks clean the machine and work area and identify issues for repair.
- Safety & Documentation:Follow all safety procedures document machine activities and potentially operate overhead cranes.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Experience operating CNC/plasma cutting machines.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and prints.
- Mechanical aptitude math skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of plasma cutting parameters and consumables.
- Basic computer skills for CAD/CAM software (often with training provided).
- Physical ability to lift materials and stand/walk for extended periods.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing or fabrication shop.
- Requires standing lifting (up to 50 lbs) bending and working with metal materials.
