Sr. Workplace Health & Safety Program Manager (Injury Prevention, Automation, Risk Assessment), Japan WHS, Program

Amazon seeks an experienced Safety Manager to join our Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) team in pursuit of our vision to become Earths safest workplace. The successful candidate will serve as a key member of the WHS Program Management team leading network-level safety risk mitigation injury prevention and proactive safety initiatives across our facilities. Reporting to the Sr. WHS Regional Manager this role encompasses collaboration with site WHS managers operations management engineering teams and global WHS teams. The Safety Manager will be responsible for identifying potential risks with particular emphasis on ergonomic considerations and developing comprehensive solutions before incidents occur. This position requires extensive experience in manufacturing/logistics safety demonstrated expertise in risk assessment and proven ability to drive safety improvements through cross-functional partnerships. The role demands strong analytical capabilities strategic thinking and the ability to implement best practices while creating safe work environments. Working directly within Amazon facilities the Safety Manager will play an integral role in advancing our commitment to workplace safety excellence across all business units. Key job responsibilities
Sr. Program Manager will be accountable for comprehensive risk assessment across all business units (BUs) including hazard identification risk level evaluation and collaborative action plan development and implementation with relevant BUs for risk elimination or mitigation. The role demands leadership in driving injury prevention through systematic risk assessment and incident trend analysis developing and implementing solutions at both site-specific and network levels.
Essential to this position is ensuring compliance and conformance with local health and safety regulations and Workplace Health and Safety Management System (WHSMS) requirements. This includes identifying operational gaps supporting sites in developing corrective actions and overseeing their implementation. Given Amazons increasingly complex operations and expanding impact areas the position requires in-depth knowledge of fire prevention law and Industrial Health and Safety regulations facilitating effective communication with regulatory authorities.
The Safety Manager will develop strategic annual operation plans incorporating incident trends and identified risks establishing clear timelines budget allocations resource requirements and return on investment analyses where applicable. Regular reporting of achievements through business reviews on weekly monthly and quarterly basis along with effective communication of results to all stakeholders is a crucial component of this role. This position plays a vital role in Amazons continuous improvement of safety performance and risk reduction initiatives.

About the team
Japans WHS (Workplace Health & Safety) team currently comprises over 100 safety and health management professionals who are dedicated to establishing safety management systems and continuously reducing workplace incidents across Amazon-operated and partner-operated facilities.
The WHS organizational structure is aligned with Amazons business units implementing hierarchical safety initiatives at both Regional and Site levels.
Within this structure the Program team holds the following key responsibilities:
Implementation
Collaboration with World Wide WHS team
Domestic implementation of global safety programs
Partnership with international counterparts
Development & Implementation
Design of customized safety and health measures tailored to Japanese operations
Implementation and deployment of safety initiatives
Continuous improvement of occupational safety and health environment
& Development
Enhancement of WHS teams professional capabilities
Strengthening operational teams safety management competencies
Implementation of systematic safety and health training programs
Through these activities the Program team aims to provide a safer and healthier work environment for all individuals working at Amazon while maintaining compliance with both global standards and local regulations.
The team plays a crucial role in bridging global safety initiatives with local operational requirements ensuring that safety programs are both effective and culturally appropriate for the Japanese work environment. This involves continuous collaboration with worldwide safety teams while developing and implementing Japan-specific safety solutions.

- 5 years of program or project management experience
- Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements
- Experience owning program strategy end to end delivery and communicating results to senior leadership
- Experience in English-language communication skills both written and verbal
- Experiences of safety risk assessments and development and implementation of mitigation plans.
