Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a summer Co-op student to join our Design and Engineering team in our Mobility business area to assist with our growing industry presence in Canada.

Our team is looking for university students who are currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Engineering program have strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills with an ability to think quickly to resolve problems in real time and interested in gaining a better understanding of the overall infrastructure design process from the initial proposal pursuit stage to construction.

The successful candidate will demonstrate interest in the design and construction of infrastructure and transportation-related this role you will be involved heavily in the proposal compilation phase from the project coordination sideas well asassisting in various project-related tasks for current rehabilitation and replacement projects. This position can be based out of any of our offices in British Columbia Canada.

Role accountabilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of structural technical reports project proposals and presentations.
  • Coordinate with structural designers and engineers to ensure design intent is accurately captured in technical documents.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate overall transportation planning and engineering solutions into proposal pursuit documents.
  • Conduct field investigations and data collection for current on-going projects as well as proposal pursuits.
  • Assist with detailed CAD drawing modifications of transportation structures including plans elevations sections and details.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends standards and best practices in structural engineering and planning.

Qualifications & Experience
Pursuant to section 42 of the BC Human Rights Code preference will be given to First Nation Inuit or Métis people. Candidates who wish to qualify for preferential consideration must self-identify in their applications

  • Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering (or related) undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited university completion of relevant coursework in structural or bridge engineering and a strong academic record demonstrating understanding of fundamental engineering principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint) and familiarity with CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD MicroStation) is an asset.
  • Basic understanding of structural analysis principles and strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in bridge design analysis and construction; coursework or projects related to structural mechanics materials or bridge engineering; familiarity with bridge design codes and standards (e.g. Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code); and exposure to structural analysis software (e.g. SAP2000 Midas Civil) is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills ability to work effectively in a team environment and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive and eager to learn strong attention to detail ability to follow instructions strong problem-solving and analytical skills and ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively.

The salary range for this position is $20-28/hour. The base salary represents Arcadis hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors such as location skills experience and qualification for the role.
