Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Environmental Services you will be responsible for maintaining a clean safe and welcoming patient environment. Additional responsibilities include the safe and efficient transport of patients supplies specimens and equipment in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients visitors and colleagues
- Respects and maintains patient confidentiality at all times
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Adheres to PIDAC and Infection Prevention and Control standards
- Actively participates in unit and departmental quality improvement initiatives
- Capable of responding appropriately to emergency codes
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Adaptable to change able to multitask and perform duties efficiently
- Well-organized with strong prioritization and time management skills
- Reliable and dependable with a strong work ethic
- Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Required to wear steel-toe footwear when working in Linen Waste or operating the Ride-On Machine
- Position requires significant physical effort (80%) including walking standing lifting and pushing/pulling carts or equipment
- Comfortable using ladders when necessary
Cleaning:
- Perform daily routine cleaning and discharge cleaning of patient rooms
- Clean and maintain various areas including patient units clinics offices corridors/hallways the Labour and Delivery Operating Room Emergency Department and Mental Health Unit
- Maintain flooring through scrubbing waxing and burnishing
- Operate and maintain cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers speed scrubbers ride-on machines carpet cleaners steamers mops and vacuums
Transporting:
- Safely transport patients using wheelchairs stretchers and beds
- Deliver medical specimens promptly and securely to designated areas
- Transport hospital equipment including but not limited to scopes and vital signs monitors
- Assist with the respectful and discreet transport of deceased patients to the morgue
Linen:
- Deliver clean linen and remove soiled linen from all units and departments
- Operate and maintain washers and dryers in the linen room
- Process various items including privacy curtains cubicle curtains slings restraints mops and patient
Waste:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable waste regulations
- Collect regular waste recycling biomedical waste and sharps/pharmaceutical containers safely and efficiently
Moves:
- Assist with office and department relocations including the movement of equipment and furniture
Mandatory Qualifications
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent
- Environmental Services: A Course for Frontline Staff (preferred)
