Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit including GO Expansion Light Rail Transit routes and major expansions to Torontos subway system to get people where they need to go better faster and easier. Our Yonge-North Subway Extension Office (5650 Yonge Street North York) is looking for aProject Manager Yonge-North Subway Underground Stations Technical Managementto join our Underground Stations project delivery team for example Royal Orchard Station among others.

Reporting to the Managers and Senior Project Managers the Project Manager administers a variety of services for the YNSE project in a safe timely standardized and cost-effective manner for quality services.

What Will I Be Doing

  • Envisions project scope of work initiates prepares and presents for execution terms of reference and subsequent addenda for agreements governing the engagement of consultants
  • Performs complete start to close-out project management on selected complex high-risk projects as required to meet corporate commitments with or without staff delegation
  • Defines the need for concept preliminary or detail design alternatives and new or improved procedures design standards variations specifications or contract documents
  • Reviews requests for property acquisitions requisitions for purchase orders change orders for contracts and addenda for consultant agreements
  • Review consultants scope of work and task completion in relation to Task Sheets and Monthly Progress Reports
  • Ensures that capital projects and programs for new replacement or enhanced infrastructure maximize customer service satisfy internal stakeholder requirements incorporate external agency requirements and serve public interests
  • Coordinate RCD (Reference Concept Design) development with MX consultants and potential developers where facility integration is applicable
  • Identifies monitors mitigates and escalates issues that can potentially put the success of the project at risk
  • Works collaboratively with the Risk Team (e.g. identify risk profile) to develop a risk management plan by resolving or escalating issues as necessary developing a project risk register identifying cause mitigation budget/time impact and probability documenting lessons learned to mitigate future risk/impact on projects.
  • Coordinates several complex tasks under pressure to meet schedule and budget commitments
  • Reviews and evaluates consultant studies reports design proposals specifications and contract documents to meet established policies procedures and standards
  • Assist the Managers and Senior Project Managers in directing and leading the TA (Technical Advisors) in developing Project Agreement Documents for the Stations Rail and Systems procurement through all phases of the project and in engagement and interface with third party stakeholders such as municipalities and transit agencies
  • Overseeing the performance of the Contractor(s) for assigned multi-discipline construction contracts
  • Providing assistance in the evaluation/negotiation/resolution of contract changes and contractors claims

What Skills and Qualification Do I need

  • Completion of a degree in Engineering Architecture - or a related discipline or a combination of education training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrates experience in project management preferably within the public sector
  • Demonstrates experience in project/construction management including experience managing large complex multi-year transit projects preferably for passenger rail transit subway/LRT underground stations storage and maintenance facilities and related works.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer/Architect in Ontario is an asset.
  • Knowledge of construction management practices and principles including familiarity with claims management is an asset.
  • Experience in management or preparation of procurement documents including but not limited to project agreements.
  • Project management experience to manage assigned LRT or Subway projects of high value and complexity in all stages of project management from start to close-out.
  • Prior experience with municipalities and transit agencies is strongly desired.
  • Organizational interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills to coordinate complex multi-disciplinary projects under pressure to meet schedule and budget commitments
  • Familiarity with various procurement models notably Alliance is an asset.
  • Experience in Sequential Excavation Method (SEM) for underground station caverns is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of coordinating complex civil transportation and utility work within transit project scope and adjacent work packages related to road network improvements.
  • Strong problem solving and influencing skills to establish effective working relationships negotiate and deal with a variety of contacts both internal and external to the organization; along with the ability to gain cooperation from individuals not under direct authority
  • Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation skills to present complex and/or new ideas with clarity and simplicity and to liaise with all levels within and outside the organization and with specialists across multiple sectors.
  • A valid Ontario G license for construction site visits
