Job Summary

Job Title-Data Engineer - RMS Data Migration

Location- Montpelier Vermont

Job Description

The Data Engineer will be responsible for analyzing reverse-engineering mapping extracting transforming and preparing legacy RMS data for ingestion into the new system. The legacy data resides primarily in MySQL replicated to Microsoft SQL Server and lacks complete documentation including a formal data dictionary and schema definitions.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze legacy MySQL and MSSQL databases to identify tables columns keys relationships constraints and implicit business rules
Reverse-engineer and reconstruct a comprehensive data dictionary
Identify data quality issues and recommend remediation strategies
Develop detailed data-mapping documentation between legacy RMS data and the new RMS schema
Design and implement SQL-based extraction and transformation logic
Write optimized repeatable and deterministic SQL queries for large datasets
Create staging tables views and intermediate transformation layers as required
Apply normalization deduplication value standardization and data-quality checks
Support iterative test migrations and final data loads in coordination with the RMS vendor
Document all SQL scripts transformation logic assumptions and dependencies
Provide knowledge transfer and walkthroughs to State personnel
Participate in technical discussions with State IT teams and subject-matter experts

Required Qualifications

Strong expertise in advanced SQL (complex joins subqueries transformations)
Hands-on experience with MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server
Proven ability to reverse-engineer undocumented or poorly documented schemas
Solid understanding of data modeling normalization and ETL methodologies
Experience preparing structured data for ingestion into third-party or COTS systems
Strong analytical documentation and communication skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with public safety RMS case management systems or similar regulatory platforms
Experience handling BLOBs PDFs and unstructured data during ETL processes
Prior public-sector or government project experience
