Looking for a role where planning collaboration and youth development come together The Department ofParks and Recreationis seeking a collaborative and community-centered Recreation Specialist II!This full-time permanent role located at Kapolei Hale involves coordinating and supporting island-wide children and youth programs networking with community and government partners and promoting City-wide youth activities as part of the Recreation Support Services Unit.
What You Will Do- Prepare and analyze reports manage budgets and contracts and track spending to make sure children and youth programs run smoothly and follow all rules.
- Travel across the island to coordinate and supervise youth programs and events monitor and improve them plan special city-wide activities and help promote children and youth programs.
- Create program guidelines develop and revise rules for recreation facilities organize schedules and registrations and investigate complaints or issues to keep youth programs running smoothly.
- Travel island-wide to train and advise staff assess their training needs conduct on-site sessions and create materials to help them run high-quality youth programs.
- Build partnerships with agencies and community groups support districts and staff provide guidance at meetings and help plan organize and implement City-wide special events and collaborative programs.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
Special Working Conditions- Work schedule is Monday - Friday from7:45 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
- May work evenings weekends and holidays based on operational needs.
- This position will serve as a Disaster Response worker during declared emergencies.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At the time of application you must be a citizen national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with specializationinrecreation physical education group work or a related field.
Substitution: Work experience may be substituted for a bachelors degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge skills and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelors degree.
For example:
1. Four (4) years of professional work experience in any occupation may substitute for a general bachelors degree.
2. Four (4) years of general work experience (does not need to be professional level experience) in youth program services/community services/physical education or related may substitute for a general bachelors degree.
Education Verification: Education information must be listed clearly on your application. As part of the hiring process you may be asked to furnish documentation to verify your education to move forward for further consideration.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
- Three (3) years of recreation experience
- One (1) year of which shall have been in planning organizing coordinating and directing children and youth recreation programs.
Substitution: A Masters degree in recreation physical education or education from an accredited four-year college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of the general recreation experience requirement. There isno substitution for the required one (1) year of experience in the specialty area of planning organizing coordinating and directing children and youth recreation programs.
Must be able to:
- Understand rules plans and tools used in recreation
- Apply instructional methods plans procedures and techniques
- Understand group behavior
- Apply principles and practices of supervision
- Apply recreation methods and techniques for specific programs
- Plan organize promote administer and evaluate recreational activities and programs
- Adjust programs and methods to fit different situations
- Lead and instruct participants in recreational activities
- Build confidence and encourage participation in staff and participants
- Get the community interested and involved in recreation programs
- Maintain good working relationship with the staff and the public
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Prior to Appointment:
1. Valid Drivers License (type3/automobile).
Prior to Completion of Probation the following certifications are required:
1.A current valid American Red Cross Standard First Aid Certificate or equivalent.
2.A current valid American Red Cross or American Heart Association Adult Child and Infant CPR and AED Certificate to include care for choking and obstructed airway or equivalent.
NOTE: The above certificates and licenses must be obtained by the time indicated and maintained on a current basis thereafter as a condition of employment.
