Summary
Iowa State University Facilities Planning and Management (FPM) Utility Distribution Department is seeking to hire an experienced Civil Engineer (would also consider a Mechanical Engineer with the right experience). The position responsibilities include the following: provide engineering services leadership and operational oversight for the campus domestic water distribution system storm and sanitary sewer system and natural gas system; design and manage utility water and mechanical distribution construction projects; coordinate operation maintenance and expansion of existing utility distribution systems; develop standard operating procedures and design standards for the safe and reliable operation of the campus water and mechanical distribution systems.
Duties will include:
In addition this position will be responsible for documenting distribution systems and design standards supporting mechanical distribution personnel and performing water quality reports and water supply system Operator in Charge regulatory compliance tasks.
The successful candidate will possess strong communication skills; strong organizational and analytical skills; and the ability to organize and coordinate work within and between projects. They must have the ability to understand
complex utility systems and equipment.
Candidates may be hired as a Civil Engineer III or a Civil Engineer IV.
Level Guidelines for Engineer III (PS811 salary grade) - Bachelors degree and 5 years of related experience
Senior-level position possessing high-level professional and/or technical skills working independently under minimal supervision to support ISUs mission and department or work unit goals
Applies senior-level professional knowledge and expertise to work requiring greater latitude
Solves moderately complex problems and regularly exercises judgment to determine appropriate action
Regularly exercises judgment to resolve problems and determine appropriate action on a broad set of issue and problems. May provide recommendations regarding problems/issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices
Responds to complicated inquiries provides training and provides direction to lower-level staff
May provide supervision for one to two other staff (i.e. leads a small work team)
May lead projects for which well-defined practices and procedures may not exist
Provides guidance to students
Level Guidelines for Engineer IV (PS812 salary grade) - Bachelors degree and 8 years of related experience. State of Iowa Professional Engineering license is preferred.
Expert-level position possessing advanced professional and/or technical skills working under limited or no supervision
Applies high-level professional knowledge and expertise to focus on ISUs mission and meeting division department or work unit goals
Solves complex issues using highly developed problem resolution skills
Regularly provides recommendations regarding problems/issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices
Utilizes high-level professional knowledge and expertise to provide guidance recommendations and set standards related to strategy policy and mission
Leads projects of moderate to high scope and complexity with broad impact
May provide supervision to other department staff (i.e. leads a small work team)
While this position is based on the Ames campus it requires some off-campus travel to visit all areas with utility distribution systems. Candidate must be able to be approved to drive an ISU owned vehicle.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
