JOB SUMMARYThis position performs technician level payroll activities including collecting verifying and processing payroll timesheets entering timesheet data into the payroll system.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary in consultation with the employee(s) involved.
- Prepares and processes employee timesheets; calculates leave overtime and additional hours; inputs data into payroll system; reconciles payroll gross and leave balances to payroll controls. Upload audit and process employee batch data from the substitute management system (Frontline) and Kronos timekeeping. Manage employee updates through a workflow system (IK12) including leave accruals new hires position changes and separations.
- Prepares and processes payroll vendor warrants for mailing and maintains payroll warrant register reports including tracking cancellations voids reissues and outstanding check records. Completes written verification of employment requests.
- Stay current with federal regulations governing W-2 reissuance and the retention of returned W-2 forms.
- Shares responsibilities of other Payroll Technicians during peak workload periods and employee vacation and other absences.
- Maintains records and archives according to state records retention guidelines.
- Resolves problems inaccuracies and variances related to area of assignment requiring personal and telephone communication with district personnel
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of payroll-related rules regulations legislation and technologies including all union collective bargaining agreements and contracts; acquires new skills as needed.
- Assists Payroll Supervisor and Payroll Manager with special projects and collaborates with other Business Services staff as necessary.
- Performs related duties which are consistent with this job description and the employees assignment.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in a standard office environment requiring prolonged periods of sitting adherence to inflexible deadlines effective communication sustained mental and visual concentration and regular use of a visual display terminal.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
High school graduation or equivalent; training in accounting or bookkeeping and secretarial skills; and two years of general accounting and/or secretarial experience which includes maintaining detailed records and accounts.
Allowable Substitution
Alternative combinations of education and experience will be evaluated by Human Resources for comparability.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to read write speak calculate and communicate effectively; skill in oral and written communication; skill and accuracy in mathematical calculations; skill in word processing spreadsheets and Business Plus computer system; skill in detecting errors and verifying data; knowledge of accounting debits and credits; knowledge of rules regulations legislation technology and procedures governing payroll; ability to operate a 10-key calculator by touch; ability to work independently with minimal supervision; ability to exercise independent judgment remain flexible and work effectively under pressure; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and public.
Licenses/Special Requirements
Ability to operate computers and learn specific business-oriented software programs; skill and accuracy in 10-key calculator operation.
SALARY:Salary is based upon the current2025-26 NEOPA Salary Schedule Salary(Level H); placement on the salary schedule will be determined by Human Resources DOE. FLSA Non-Exempt. Steps 10 12 and 15 are longevity steps.
WORK YEAR:260 days per year 8.0 hours per day.

Generally you are eligible for SEBB benefits if you are anticipated to work at least 630 hours per school year (September 1 through August 31).
