Description of Work
The Collections Technician stationed at the Office of State Archaeology Conservation Lab (formerly the Queen Annes Revenge Conservation Lab) is a critical position within the Office of State Archaeology (OSA) in supporting the labs mission to conserve NCs archaeological collections. OSA bears primary responsibility for the protection and management of thousands of terrestrial and submerged archaeological sites in our state including the famous Queen Annes Revenge (QAR) near Beaufort NC for which the lab was established in 2003. The Collections Technician facilitates effective and efficient work by maintaining both physical and digital collections performing artifact documentation ensuring compliance with mandated health and safety requirements and coordinating public education and outreach initiatives. The Collections Technician is a member of the OSA Lab team in Greenville NC located at East Carolina Universitys West Research Campus and reports to the Head Conservator.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Experience working with archaeological collections particularly from submerged environments
Experience with object photography
Experience with lab safety procedures
Experience supervising interns and volunteers
Position/Physical Requirements
Must be able to work Monday - Friday 8am-5pm with occasional weekend events (4-5 a year).
Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 10 pounds often with or without accommodation.
Must be able to work in environmentally-controlled indoor conditions but occasionally will be working in uncontrolled indoor conditions and in outdoor conditions both on land and at sea.
Must be able to work occasionally with personal protective equipment as appropriate for noisy dusty or other chemical-related hazardous conditions.
This position is deemed eligible for hybrid telework under DNCRs Telework Policy.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in North American archaeology anthropology or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution;
and
two years of archaeological experience;
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Section/Unit Description
The Office of State Archaeology coordinates and implements a statewide program of prehistoric historic and underwater archaeology. The OSA is part of the North Carolina Office of Archives and History Department of Cultural Resources. The OSA serves as the professional archaeology staff for the State Historic Preservation Office and the NC Historical Commission. Legal and professional responsibilities include archaeological resource protection data inventory collections and records management public education environmental review grants administration and technical assistance to the public and other government agencies.
Division Description
The North Carolina Office of State Archaeology (OSA) is one of four programs within the Division of Historical Resources within the Office of Archives and History. The OSA serves North Carolinas citizens through programs that identify and protect archaeological resources on land and beneath state waters and the OSA is tasked with maintaining information on the more than 52000 archaeological sites that have been recorded across the coordination with staff from the State Historic Preservation Office (HPO) OSA staff perform environmental review of projects that have the potential to adversely affect significant archaeological sites in North Carolina. Similarly projects undertaken by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) are subject to state and federal legislation related to the protection of cultural resources including archaeological sites. The environmental review of these projects involves various forms of documentation such as project plans archaeological site forms and technical reports that are submitted to the OSA by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and its consultants.

Veterans and National Guard Preference
