Maintenance Supervisor (Paint)

Halifax Harbour Bridges is a provincial Crown corporation that operates and maintains two bridges across the Halifax Harbour the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge and the A. Murray MacKay Bridge. Approximately 105000 vehicles cross the two bridges each workday along with the hundreds of pedestrians and cyclists who use the active transportation lanes on the Macdonald Bridge. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Supervisor (temporarily) and working closely with other Maintenance Department staff the Maintenance Supervisor (Paint) is responsible for coordinating and supervising the work of all Painters and Paint Attendants. The Maintenance Supervisor (Paint) is engaged in the overall maintenance and upkeep of HHBs all assets that require coatings (i.e. bridges buildings roadway markings and equipment) all while ensuring work crews are adhering to HHBs safety scheduling quality control and productivity standards.

PrimaryResponsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate paint/coatings staff withinthe Maintenance department across HHBs locations ensuring work is performedsafely efficiently and in accordance with HHBs approved standardsprocedures and quality requirements.
  • Conduct regular inspections of bridgestructures and coatings work to assess condition determine maintenancepriorities and ensure uniform application and surface preparation.
  • Provide daily leadership coaching andoversight of staff; review work performance; approve time records; andadminister performance management in accordance with the collective agreement HHBpolicies and applicable legislation.
  • Ensure tools equipment materials andcoatings inventory are properly maintained certified stored and available tosupport operational requirements as per HHBs standards.
  • Plan schedule and coordinate coatings workincluding estimating labour and material requirements approving costsmaintaining records and reports and requisitioning supplies as needed.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance and Engineeringstaff to ensure safe and timely access to bridge structures supportcollaborative team operations and effective completion of work.
  • Promote and enforce the organizations healthand safety program by ensuring staff are trained competent and compliant withsafe work practices job safety assessments and reporting requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Class 5 Nova Scotia Drivers Licensewith a clean driving record; driver abstract required prior to hire.
  • Successful completion of physical demands assessment employment reference checks and ifrequired a criminal background check.
  • Supervisory experience preferably supervisingunionized workers.
  • National Association of Corrosion Engineers(NACE) - Coatings Inspector Program (CIP) Level 2 or higher.
  • Experience supervising lead paint removal andworking in a safety-sensitive position.
  • Ability to work efficiently and safely whilemaintaining high-quality workmanship and excellent customer service.
  • Intermediate computer skills includingMicrosoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations anddemonstrated punctuality dependability and a positive can-do attitude.

PhysicalRequirements:

This role requires physicallydemanding work including lifting (up to 25 lbs frequently 50 lbsoccasionally). Additional tasks may involve varying levels ofintensity in activities such as standing/walkingfor 67 hours per day lifting climbing balancing bending kneelingcrouching reaching overhead/forward/side kneeling and other physicalactivities as required.


WorkingConditions:

This is a safety-sensitive positionrequiring work in physically demanding environments and exposure to varyingintensity levels. Work is performed at extreme heights (170320 feet) inconfined or restricted spaces above and below bridge decks often with limiteddirect supervision. Exposure to variable and extreme weather conditions highnoise levels (grinders pneumatic tools bridge traffic) vibration dustfumes unpleasant odours lead (respirators required) and flammable/explosive materials. Position may involve mental stressdue to conflicting demands hazardous situations working alone and attentionto safety-critical tasks. Requires adherence to strict safety protocols and useof personal protective equipment to ensure safe operation at all times.

About the position:Thisis a Full-time Permanent Non-Union position. The hours of work are 40 hours perweek however the role does requireoccasional extended hours. The comprehensive compensation package includeshealth dental benefits insurance coverage and a defined benefit pension plan.

Annual Salary:The annual compensation for thisrole is $74185.65.
