Description
Every summer for the month of July Pratt Institute sponsors a college-level program for high school sophomores juniors and seniors at its Brooklyn campus. The program attracts over 300 students annually both domestic and international. It is an intensive immersion experience with most students living on campus and studying art design or creative writing modeled after Pratts undergraduate offerings.
The Summer Precollege Program Coordinator works directly with the Associate Director to support all aspects of the organization and implementation of the Summer Precollege Program including but not limited to the administration of admissions faculty and student orientations lectures social and cultural events occurring both on and off campus and a final exhibition. Multiple coordinators with distinct responsibilities will be hired. Important to note that each hired person will serve interchangeably in one of these roles as needed. The position will work closely with and supervise student employees and mentors.
The Program Coordinator will work part-time during business hours (15 hours/week) March 9 - May 15 2026 adjusting to a full-time schedule (35 hours/week) including evening and weekend hours just prior and throughout the duration of the program (May 18 - August 5 2026). Flexibility of hours is expected for the duration of the PreCollege Program.
Examples of Duties
Activities Coordinator:
- Plan and organize logistics for all on-campus events and off-campus excursions
- Communicate to staff on logistics of implementing events and off campus excursions
- Manage email correspondence and phone calls with guidance from the Precollege team
- Communicate with internal and external partners to organize all events including the final celebration student and staff orientation sessions partnered workshops museum trips studio hours and cultural excursions
- Assist in planning and executing final exhibition and orientation sessions
- Assist with all contracts and payments
- Oversee any model booking
- Coordinate staff schedule and delegate job duties to Cultural and Studio Mentors ensuring adequate coverage and support for students
- Organize sign-up sheets and coordinate student attendance for events/activities trips and studio hours
- Communicate with staff and students about events and activities as needed
- Developing and outlying content for parent newsletter emailed weekly
- Other duties related to the Precollege program as assigned by the Associate Director
Office Coordinator: - Oversee/coordinate administration of Precollege program including the student staff who are part of the office team
- Respond to emails and phone calls with guidance from the Precollege team
- Communicate directly with faculty including organizing faculty training collecting syllabi Address faculty questions regarding attendance and program policies oversee execution of program and course evaluations as well as send reminders.
- Communicate with students about program and academic questions such as attendance as needed
- Coordinate class attendance ensure faculty understand and implement attendance record keeping
- Manage all work orders and address facility concerns to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
- Organize purchases or orders for office and activity supplies
- Supervise Precollege student office team including creating work schedules and delegating tasks
- Coordinate with non-academic offices (Health counseling residential life OIA etc.)
- Marketing (Social media posts Emails and website updates) and soliciting student testimonials
- Other duties related to the Precollege program as assigned by the Associate Director
Qualifications
Required Skills:
- Excellent customer service skills
- Leadership/Management skills
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Crisis and conflict management skills
- Ability to implement all procedures in case of an emergency
- Experience working with high school students or in an educational setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
Preferred Qualifications:
- RA and/or education experience preferred
- Prior Precollege/Summer camp experience preferred
- Art and design experience preferred
- Familiarity with the Brooklyn/New York City area and Pratt Institute preferred
- Design and social media experience a plus

Contract Timeframe: March 9 - August 5 2026
The Precollege program will run from June 20 - July 31 2026. Employment will be from March 9 - May 15 part time approximately 15 hours per week (hours will be between 9AM - 5PM) and adjust to a full time schedule (35 hours per week) prior to the start and during the program. Work schedules will include evening and weekend hours.
This is an in-person role on Pratts Brooklyn Campus.
