Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following other duties may be assigned)

This position is available in either Pasadena TX or the Bay Area CA.

This position is responsible for the implementation of major programs to include predictive maintenance program water treatment program transformer reliability program incident investigation program training program catalyst program and other similar major programs. For example the PM program includes day to day management of the test and maintenance fleet services contractor(s) interpretation of the test results and recommendations to Calpine Management and Calpine Engineering of critical items that are being monitored. Coordinates and monitors the scheduling pricing and technical performance of company programs. Responsibilities also include aiding in the negotiation of contracts and contractual changes and coordinating preparations of proposals plans specifications and financial conditions of contracts. The programs managed by the Program Manager are to provide consistent implementation of the program throughout Calpines Fleet improving operational reliability and efficiency. Ensures adherence to master plans and schedules develops solutions to program problems and ensures programs are consistently delivered and maintained. Provides technical guidance to other departments within Calpine. Provide technical leadership to both internal and external organizations and entities.

Specialized Job Information

This position is responsible for the implementation of the Catalyst Management Program. This program includes day-to-day management of the test and maintenance fleet services contractor(s) interpretation of the test results and recommendations to Calpine Management and Calpine Engineering of critical items that are being monitored. Program includes defining scheduling and implementing major maintenance activities on the catalyst systems including capital replacements. Coordinates and monitors the scheduling pricing and technical performance of the program. Responsibilities also include aiding in the negotiation of contracts and contractual changes and coordinating preparations of proposals plans specifications and financial conditions of contracts. The programs managed by the Program Manager are to provide consistent implementation of the program throughout Calpines Fleet improving operational reliability and efficiency. Ensures adherence to master plans and schedules develops solutions to program problems and ensures programs are consistently delivered and maintained. Provides technical guidance to other departments within Calpine. Provide technical leadership to both internal and external organizations and entities.

  • Manage service providers and 3rd party consultants to inspect & test SCR and CO catalysts track life expectancy provide projections and develop 5 year and 10-year budgets for replacement and major maintenance evaluate new catalyst technologies and level catalyst costs.
  • Lead catalyst replacement projects from the request for quote package development and proposal evaluation to field installation supervision.
  • Review inspection and lab testing reports communicates findings to plant/regional management and supports the plants in implementing the recommendations.
  • Evaluates catalyst and SCR system problems. Will take a lead role in implementing changes to improve safety reliability and performance of the equipment.
  • Conducts site walks and supervises contractors during catalyst replacement and major maintenance projects.
  • Review the quality of the contractors work daily to ensure it complies with the Calpine design standards the construction specification and applicable codes.

Job Responsibilities

  • In-depth or broad extensive knowledge catalyst design function and maintenance activities.
  • Highly skilled professional with wide-ranging advanced technical experience to resolve complex issues.
  • Competent to work at very high level in multiple knowledge areas or functions as an advanced contributor to the reliability of fleet catalyst systems including ammonia injection systems.
  • Make decisions on complex issues regarding project components and advanced tasks for maintenance and or replacement of catalyst systems.
  • Leads research for innovations from external sources and identifies opportunities to develop new processes tools services and techniques within the job function.
  • Works on complex issues and projects.
  • Uses independent judgment requiring in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Independently selects methods techniques analytical approach and evaluation criteria to maintain and or improve catalyst system reliability.
  • Determines methods and procedures for new assignments.
  • Serves as project/technical lead on medium to large projects; regularly coordinates work of professionals technicians and others outside of own department.
  • Trains and mentors employees on technical skills.
  • Collaborate and solve problems works with others to resolve significant issues clarify or interpret complex information provide initial screening/negotiations.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent in engineering and or chemical field of study
  • In-depth experience across knowledge areas and multiple functions including project management; typically requires 10 years in area of specialization.
  • At least ten (10) years experience in the Power industry particularly in the assessment and troubleshooting of the power plants mechanical equipment.
  • A good comprehension of basic engineering practices through work experience or college courses.
  • You must have strong computer skills especially in the use of Microsofts Office suite.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are essential. Candidate will need to communicate across all levels in the organization.
  • Must be flexible and able to work harmoniously with others.
  • Good problem solving and analytical ability are required.
  • You must be able to read and understand construction drawings. Codes/Standards P & IDs and other technical documents.
  • Good organization skills and attention to details are essential.
  • Candidates must be able and willing to travel.
  • Candidates must be able to climb ladders work at elevation and in confined spaces.
