Work Location:Virginia Beach VA

Essential duties:

  • Serves as the primary contact for all student contact (walk-ins phone calls emails etc.) during specified office hours)
  • Navigates and assists the students through the process of requesting accommodations
  • Reviews documentation and identifies students needs for accommodations
  • Approves and notifies student of reasonable accommodations; also navigates the process of denying accommodations and working with students to determine next steps
  • Maintains and protects confidentiality of students with disabilities
  • Collaborates with faculty to ensure ADA compliance and effective implementation of identified accommodations
  • Fulfills accommodations such as alternative text requests transcription/captioning services etc. are fulfilled in an efficient and timely fashion
  • Arranges and completes case conferences with students and other staff members to investigate and resolve concerns regarding accommodations
  • Assists in developing institutional policies and procedures relevant to the ADA and affecting students with disabilities
  • Conducts workshops and in-service trainings
  • Keeps current with interpretations of ADA law related to accessibility and student services within higher education
  • Maintains and updates confidential student files to include their documentation emails other forms of contact etc.
  • Participates and assists in the provision of student accommodations & general accessibility services during the Universitys Commencement & Commissioning
  • Collaborates on office-wide projects/growth measures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree required. Should be in a field such as counseling psychology social work special education or disability related field. Outside fields may be considered.
