Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $6705 - $7403 per month(Internal employees may be placed at a salary higher than the anticipated range as required by the collective bargaining agreement.)

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $6705 -$9768 per month

  • This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week) probationary non-exempt position.
  • This position is limited to internal on-campus stateside employees.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical dental and vision plans membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) sick and vacation time and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Assistant Director of Facilities Operations the Supervising Painter is primarily responsible for supervising the Paint Shop consisting of skilled journey-level painters.

Key Qualifications

  • Knowledge:
    • Work requires thorough knowledge of the methods materials tools and equipment used in the painting trade including painting finishing mud and drywall.
    • A thorough knowledge of the applicable state codes and regulations including the Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety of the State of California.
    • Must possess a thorough knowledge of effective lead practices and techniques and a working knowledge of job design and work sequencing related to construction projects.
  • Abilities:
    • Must be able to apply paints and finishes neatly and accurately.
    • Mix paints and finishes and match colors.
    • Erect and work from scaffolds rigging and ladders.
    • Select the most appropriate materials.
    • Read interpret and work from blueprints plans drawings and specifications.
    • Make rough sketches.
    • Estimate cost time and materials of painting work.
    • Maintain records and retrieve data using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems.
    • Prepare standard reports.
    • Analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
    • Read and write at a level appropriate to the position.
    • Perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position.
    • Must be able to lead plan and direct the work of skilled crafts workers and their semi-skilled assistants.
    • Determine and coordinate staffing material and equipment needs for multiple jobs and projects.
    • Ensure accuracy and maintenance of assigned record-keeping systems.
    • Ability to plan schedule and implement a preventative maintenance program on exterior and interior finishes on a living campus.

Education and Experience

  • These abilities normally would be acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard painters apprenticeship program and
  • Minimum two years experience as a journey-level painter including one to two years in a lead/supervisory capacity.
    • Preferred Skills:
      • Ability to maintain input and utilize a CMMS (Computer Maintenance Management System) to manage electronic work orders provide estimates to a diverse clientele and assign work to painters.
      • EPA lead renovator initial certification
