Job Summary

Psychiatric Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Full-Time 7PM-7AM (36 hrs/week weekends and holidays required)
  • Part-Time 7PM-7AM (12-35 hrs/week weekends and holidays required)
POSITION SUMMARY

Provides high quality nursing care in accordance with the American Nursing Association Standards of Practice and MHS Nursing Standards of Practice. Adheres to all established policies and procedures of MHS. Functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team. Acts as a primary nurse or primary designee in providing individualized care to the adult SMD adolescent geriatric patients and their families.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assesses the biological psychological socio-cultural and spiritual aspects of the patient and family system as appropriate.
  • Analyzes and interprets data recognizing major and minor defining characteristics and identifying the nursing care needs based on patterns recognized by NANDA (North American Nursing Diagnosis Association).
  • Completes the admission process according to service area policy and procedure.
  • Develops implements and revises and individualized plan of care for assigned patients according to policy.
  • Collaborates with the patient family and involved community systems throughout the treatment process focusing on strengths and enhancing skills necessary for promoting wellness.
  • Functions as an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Develops and revises goals and objectives according to policy in collaboration with the patient and members of the treatment team.
  • Designs and implements nursing interventions based on current literature in nursing and related fields.
  • Consistently maintains a safe and effective therapeutic milieu. Stays cognizant of infection control issues. Follows policies and procedures on infection prevention.
  • Provides appropriate teaching learning interventions for patients and families.
  • Administers and evaluates the effectiveness of prescribed medication in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Displays high quality decision making and problems solving in the following key areas: crisis intervention health issues management of the aggressive patient PRN medication administration instituting special precautions instituting nursing measures physical/mental status ensuring the safety of the unit by maintaining adequate staff coverage and patient surveillance.
  • Constantly evaluates and re-assesses patient status and response to treatment and intervenes accordingly. Evaluation is reflected in the plan of care.
  • Maintains accurate objective and timely documentation in the patients chart in accordance with policy.
  • Possesses current knowledge of adult SMD adolescent and geriatric psychiatric nursing and related fields and independently seeks to expand their knowledge based on identified learning needs.
  • Works under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse and is capable of planning prioritizing and completing his/her work in a timely manner. May function as charge nurse as necessary.
  • Follows all universal precautions for safety infection control and follows all state federal and joint commission health and safety standards.
  • Treats patients and family with dignity and respect at all times and holds all patient information in the strictest confidence.
  • Adhere to professional standards policies and procedures federal state and local requirements and Joint Commission standards including National Patient Safety Goals. Presents a positive image of MHSCC to other community agencies caregivers and citizens
  • Completes all MHS required education and training including initial agency orientation mandatory trainings and educations and up keep of all required certifications and licensure as required by state federal and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs other job-related tasks as assigned

Education/Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Associates degree in nursing (Bachelors preferred)

Licensure/Certifications

  • Valid Ohio Licensed Practical Nurse
  • NVCI
  • BLS Required
MHS provides CPR (BLS)/First Aid and NVCI (CPI Blue Card) for all new staff along with on-going education and on-the-job training opportunities.

All MHS candidates are required to have an Ohio BCI check (FBI check required if you have lived in Ohio for less than 5 years or for working with children) 5-panel drug screen and Residential candidates must have a 2-step TB (or proof of prior TB) upon conditional offer of employment.
