Job Duties:

TRIO and the Educational Opportunity Programs office at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at Rock County seeks a Teaching Specialist in Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 (Teaching Specialist TL024)

This will be a 50% FTE part-time fixed-term appointment. Reappointment for subsequent terms is dependent upon the needs of the University funding staffing requirements enrollment and external forces. For information on fixed-term contracts please see UW System Admin Policy 1250: Job Security.

Reporting to the Director of TRIO Student Support Services and Learning Support Center the TRIO Math Specialist teaches a partial course load each semester and provides math tutorial support services to TRIO Student Support Services Scholars.

TRIO Math Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Individually or in LEA tutorial courses tutor TRIO SSS students who are enrolled in math courses (MATand 117) or in other courses requiring quantitative reasoning

  • Conduct formal and informal needs assessment of TRIO SSS students mathematical skills

  • Develop math workshops and/or study groups based on TRIO students needs and interest

  • Develop curricular materials and instructional strategies for LEA courses and supplemental materials for all math courses

  • Maintain contact with TRIO SSS students enrolled in math courses to offer them academic support

  • Maintain records of all student contacts and prepare reports on student progress and the delivery of support services by utilizing EAB Navigate

  • Meet regularly with TRIO SSS staff to assess needs and monitor progress of individual students. Attend weekly TRIO SSS Staff meetings

  • Establish and maintain cordial working relationships with math faculty

  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Director

TRIO is a federally funded program that provides structured academic personal and career assistance to students as they complete their college education.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum A Masters Degree in a related field

  • At Least one year of experience in teaching and/or tutoring in an educational setting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with student populations such as first-generation college students students with documented disabilities and/or federally low income students

  • Experience working in TRIO or other college access programs

  • Experience teaching developmental and lower-division college mathematics or co-requisite support courses

  • Experience with database and engagement platforms and software such as: Student Access PeopleSoft Canvas Canva Microsoft Office Suite EAB Navigate Stellic

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.
